marknotts1983 1
Not quite Nottingham but close; I remember a shop in Ilkeston that had funny stickers in the window, one which read 'Save Gas, Fart in a Money Box!" There were others, but can't remember now, must've been 20 years ago.
Chulla 4,946
I don't know how true this is, but years ago my father told me that before the war there were two shops in Carrington Street with the name Bogger - no doubt the spelling would be different but probably pronounced thus. One of the shops had a sign in the window saying "We are no relation to the Boggers up the road". Chulla
DAVIDW 1,683
Don't know if it's true but it made me laugh !! Edit : Actually could be true as there were a few BOGERS on the 1911 Census ! Can't see any on the current Electoral Roles though, so all the Bogers must have buggered off !

jonab 1,644
Another name oddity I have come across was an engineer at (I think) Plessey whose name was Sidebottom - nothing more than slightly amusing in that but, on an occasion I had to phone him the telephonist at Plessey told me there was nobody of that name there. I said there was as he had written me a letter. "How are you spelling that name?" I spelt out SIDEBOTTOM to her. "Ah, you mean Mr Sid-E-Bott-home."
