martyn_25 0
Hi all, Does anyone know the name and location of this pub? It featured in the 1979 film "Arrows" where some scenes were shot in Nottingham. Thanks in advance, Rich
Cliff Ton 10,467
The original photo was so bad I thought April 1st had come early; you couldn't even see a pub, let alone recognise it. I've adjusted it to make it possibly identifiable.
DAVIDW 1,683
Looks like the Thurland at first glance .
DAVIDW 1,683
At second glance not enough windows upstairs to be the Thurland . Film here and a couple of Nottingham street shots
DAVIDW 1,683
By the way , welcome Martyn ! A better image that "flashes" brighter at about 10.39 mins in , just after Bristow enters pub / A plain No 36 over the corner door but annoyingly difficult to read the sign above the right hand window but almost looks like "Chelsea" ? Be funny if it was on Lots Rd !
martyn_25 0
Thanks for the welcome David. It's a case of "so near but so far". Bristow is staying in the hotel which is now the council offices near Forest's ground, so I'm thinking it could well be around the Meadows area.
mick2me 3,033
Does the sign on the right sat 'STON'(ES) or 'LON' (DON)?
Cliff Ton 10,467
Later when he walks in to the pub, you can see houses across the road (assuming the interiors are shot in the same building as shown on the exterior).
denshaw 2,872
Not a Nottingham pub, after 11.20 mins they were standing too far from dartboard.
mick2me 3,033
Later there is a Miners welfare sign, just after they are seen driving in the country A60??? Possibly towards Mansfield area?
NewBasfordlad 3,599
Mick I would suggest it's the 614 they drive along, turning left just before you get to the White Post down into Blidworth. Its a deffo it's Blidworth Miners Welfare, sat in that main room many a time, it used to be on the right hand side as you drove up the hill out off Blidworth towards Rainworth. As to the pub I would think London just for the fact Bristowe is talking about going to his local and the attitude of people there.
DAVIDW 1,683
I think it was a London pub too . He was a Cockney so could be the Queen Vic .
NewBasfordlad 3,599
I've just been googling East End corner pubs and have to say have found quite a few candidates. The design seems fairly ubiquitous.
littlebro 234
Martin_25, The pub in your photo is not in Nottingham, it is the Londesborough, Stoke Newington.
DAVIDW 1,683
Littlebro brilliant, you are right , its even got that 36 over the corner door and the unusual concave architrave over that door . Picture at the foot of tne page . http://www.thelondesborough.com/
littlebro 234
Nottstalgia sleuths do it again We are getting good at this.
Cliff Ton 10,467
Maybe we should start a thread about "pubs pretending to be in Nottingham which are really in London". Starting with this one, and then "The British Flag" in Battersea for Saturday Night Sunday Morning.
