I got 4000 adding in my head. Why . Was it supposed to be difficult. I'm not good at maths but found this simple.

If you add it up , leaving out the final number you should get 3090 .

Adding the final 10 onto that sum gives you 3100

but for some reason your brain wants to make it 4000 !

I just added it up mentally first and got the 4000. Then I added the numbers going down the columns, as I would checking a receipt, this way I got the 3100.

I could easily get diddled, by a confidence trickster?

I'm with Nonna. Simple mental arithmetic gave a sum of 4000. Even added it a couple more times to make sure it came out right. That's how we did mental arithmetic when I was a pup. Why leave a number out? Just add up what is there.

Edited to add. I just wrote the numbers in column form and got 3100???

Mental arithmetic. 500+520 = 1020. +1000 = 2020+30 =2050+40=2090 + 1000 = 3090 + 10 = 4000

Go figure. :-)

O-k. I think I figured out. When you get to 3090 using mental arithmetic you add that final 10 and for some strange reason think of it as 4000. But 3090 +10 is 3100. Weird repetitive mistake. Good one Carnie. Teach us to be careful when adding our $
