Then I added the numbers going down the columns, as I would checking a receipt, this way I got the 3100. I could easily get diddled, by a confidence trickster? Quote Link to post Share on other sites
loppylugs 8,429 Posted June 11, 2016 Report Share Posted June 11, 2016 I'm with Nonna. Simple mental arithmetic gave a sum of 4000. Even added it a couple more times to make sure it came out right. That's how we did mental arithmetic when I was a pup. Why leave a number out? Just add up what is there. Edited to add. I just wrote the numbers in column form and got 3100??? Mental arithmetic. 500+520 = 1020. +1000 = 2020+30 =2050+40=2090 + 1000 = 3090 + 10 = 4000 Go figure. :-) Quote Link to post Share on other sites

When you get to 3090 using mental arithmetic you add that final 10 and for some strange reason think of it as 4000. But 3090 +10 is 3100. Weird repetitive mistake. Good one Carnie.
