Although I was not born in Nottingham, nor have I lived for any length of time in Nottingham, I spent many a happy day of my childhood with my grandparents - a Fewkes and a Holmes; and a Brown and a Kerry - in said city, particularly during the 1970s. Most of the time it was with my dad’s parents, the Browns of Stanley Road - playing on the Forest, visiting the arboretum, and sitting in a smoke-filled Hyson Green Boys Club where my grandad often called the bingo numbers.
