  1. It's been boarded up for ages and it's in quite a sorry state, also looks like a new bar or cafe is opening in the building next door; I'll see if I can get you a photo.
  2. I think you've hit the nail on the head with that - the Rutland Arms certainly rings a bell. Don't think I ever ventured inside until the revamp into the Tap and Tumbler.
  3. I think it was the Wilberforce Tavern and I do remember the small chippy next door - I always thought it was the best one in town. Now I've just got to remember the original name of the pub that is across the road.
  4. Nice article Stu and thanks for the mention.
  5. Not sure, I was too busy trying to hold a camera and an umbrella at the same time!
  6. No problem. Let me know when you've posted it and I'll have a look and a read.
  7. Stu is right, great show despite the atrocious weather - only risked the camera for a couple of shots - If anybody wants larger copies, just shout.
  8. It was on Canal Street and I think it was the first gay club in Nottingham, not 100% certain of the name but I think it was Le Chic; the restaurant was/is the Pagoda - it's still there.
  9. I went down this afternoon and some of the bands were surprisingly good, especially a Leicester band called The Displacements and another Midlands band called Envy And Other Sins. There myspace sites are here- http://www.myspace.com/envyandothersins http://www.myspace.com/thedisplacements There was also a cracking skiffle band on at St Peters gate called Railway Bill, try and catch them if they're around on any of the other days. I took a few pictures and I'll take some more of Geno tomorrow and then I'll upload them.
  10. You're right, it was underneath the Albany Hotel - might have been called something else before it became an Irish bar. I think they used to have a DJ on some nights plus they also had live performances but, unfortunately, can't remember any at the moment.
  11. PeteC - got through the Rad YC cd's last night - great music and great quality. Cheers.
  12. Not sure about that, I got my information from Billboard and other sources, http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/articl...t_id=1003728188 Never mind, I understand it's a pretty good album.
  13. Mine arrived today, so that's the next few days listening sorted. Thanks again.
  14. I'll go for Nathan Jones by the Supremes, unfortunately I can't find a video of it.
  15. I used to visit the Sandpiper occasionally but that tended to be subject to what else was around at the time and it seemed everytime I went, Some Chicken were on! No problem with that but they tended to be late replacements for somebody who couldn't make it. Anyway, I always found those stairs difficult after a few beers! I do remember the Sex Pistols trial - I somehow found myself at the after trial party at the Flying Horse. I think Lydon and Branson were there. Never really a great fan of punk but I did like Dury, TRB, The Clash, early Police, Stranglers but I tend to regard them as ro
  16. I do remember the Ted revival, sort of coincided with the rebirth (?) of rockabilly, perhaps '77 onwards?
  17. There used to be a cracking local band that played there from time to time (or maybe it was just once) - who remembers The Chettles?
  18. It's one of three rowing clubs on the side of the Trent next to the Forest ground - the others were the Britannia and the Union. Their website is here - http://www.nrcuk.org/index.php They still have bands on from time to time but it's not a regular thing anymore.
  19. Used to go in there quite often, never saw any trouble - always very laid back......
  20. Wasn't the Wilberforce Tavern opposite? Demolished to make way for the hotel - there also used to be a great chippy right next door.
  21. Don't forget all those greats that stood on that small stage in the Boat - thinking of Led Zep, Sabbath, Deep Purple, Fleetwood Mac, Genesis, Clapton, Beck etc. Added to that there were some great acts that never made the really big time. I remember seeing Def Leppard down there in one of their first ever gigs, they were only about 18 at the time and you could tell they were going to be huge.
  22. That's a fascinating clip. Spent many hours as a kid watching the trains go over that bridge on Haydn Road - we used to get chased off the platform by the station master who obviously didn't want children littering the place.
