  2. I believe they just have fluorescent bulbs, Mick. Wasn't it possible to do a little home fixit?
  3. re post 10. Hi Beefy. I have always tried to stay away from any phone in tech support. They all seem to be in some far off Eastern land with a rather poor command of the English language. I wouldn't push Dell, because if you bought one on my recommendation and it turned out to be a load of trash I would feel real bad. !inthebin! Just quoting my own good experience. I guess we all get to like our favorite brands. With me its always been Ford, but I know some folks wouldn't be caught dead driving one. I have a son in law who writes software for a living so he has usually been able to he
  4. I have used a Dell laptop for about eighteen months now. I have been VERY satisfied with it. Has plenty of HD space and battery life seems to be about two hours on a full charge. Sufficient memory 1 gig and processor speed to edit movies. Only use wifi at home so have no experience with logging on anywhere else. As Frank said, mobile broadband would be an extra expense. Have heard of folks connecting through their cell phones but it is unreliable and probably slow if you have been used to full speed broadband. I would definitely buy another Dell. Hope you find a good deal. Dave
  5. Well, whatever one believes about it all if somebody comes up and calls a man a liar in the way this guy did he is asking to get his nose bent. I came to the conclusion quite a while ago that to get at the real truth of issues is just about impossible. We only know what we are told by the ever obedient media. Sad situation. no2
  6. Saw a movie a few months ago where some guy cornered as many of the former astronauts as he could. After chatting with them a bit he would pull out a Bible and ask them if they would be willing to swear on the Bible that they actually did set foot on the moon. The responses were interesting. Some just laughed, one or two became belligerent, some just tried to wave him off. Not one, would simply just swear that they did it. Not trying to start some kind of religious debate here, just observing the response was interesting.
  7. Does make you wonder! I read somewhere that the required computer technology to pull it off was not there. The computer available was not much more powerful than a calculator. Also often wondered why no really good clear pictures. My old cheap "Boots" 35mm camera could take better photos than most of the alleged moon photos taken with a top of the line Hasselblad. Apollo 13 seemed like something out of a movie script with suspense to the very last moment. again it makes you wonder how it could be pulled off after such a devastating explosion. I have often wondered why there has been no
  8. Poohbear mentioned the movie "Driving Miss Daisy" she does make a reference to having her driver driver her to the Piggly Wiggly. Would be a bit confusing if you've never heard of the place. We have a couple in town here. Prices are actually pretty good.
  9. Poultry!!! of Course. Now why didn't I think of that? flyswat You can smell 'em a mile a way if you happen to live near chicken houses
  10. We have the Piggly Wiggly too!! !hungr!
  11. Peanuts, Peaches, Pecans, Pine trees, and Peanuts. Oh! and Jimmy Carter, but nobody likes to brag about that.
  12. Georgia has the best hog jowls and grits! !jumping!
  13. Started in 1962 at a driving school at bottom of Woodborough road. Think it was city and district or something like that. (Senior moment) Instructors name was Yardley. Great guy. Started out in a Morris Minor then changed to Austin A40 can't remember why. Took my first test in Basford after about ten lessons. No driving in between lessons, no car in the family. Examiner was a miserable old so & so. As I turned a corner onto one of the side streets in Basford he asked me, "What did you see in the mirror before you made your turn." He'd got me! I said something like, "Errr, cars a
  14. So true, Baz. I left Chandos boys school in 1959. Soon as I turned 15. Couldn't get out of there fast enough! Worked at Ericssons in Beeston for a while before getiing an apprenticeship at Clarkes. Had some guys from Cavendish there. Tony Hawley, Clive Davis. Maybe they ring some bells with you. Don't know where they are now or even if they are still alive. hope they are. Dave
  15. Hope Ya'll have a great Christmas and Happy New Year. Dave
  16. I s'pect that would have been Newton Road then Dave ? We moved into the one on the bottom corner of Newton & Shelford in '61. There were only a dozen or so houses along the bottom of Newton then. Over Shelford Road was nothing 'cept fields (now Stanhope etc) where I used to go rabbiting. Sure was Baz. That job lasted quite a while. Great fun in the summer and fall of 62 when we all thought we were going to be blown to kingdom come over Cuba. But that winter was something else. They were pretty nice houses when they were new. Not sure what they would be like today. Dave
  17. I'll never forget that winter of 62-63, Mick. We were up in Gedling wiring council houses opposite Gedling pit. It was so cold you couldn't turn a screwdriver and yet you couldn't wear gloves. I think it was just about the coldest I've ever felt and that includes living in Canada for thirty odd years. Dave
  18. Serves yer right. Yer should 'ave moved to Georgia. Let me know when you are passing Atlanta I'll put ' kettle on. !tanning! Dave
  19. Those crumpets. Not really sure of the name my old grandma used to call 'em "Pyclets" not sure of spelling. Whatever they were they were great with the butter running right through them. Dave
  20. Great pictures! Brought back many happy memories. Dave
  21. No. it fell down a hole in the stock market. no2
  22. Nows your chance to push for Blue Ray DVD Beefy. Lets see. That will also require an HD TV if you don't already have one. Push for a projector Of course if you go with a projector you will need a screen if you have patterned wallpaper. Hmmmmm! That Blue Ray will have five channel audio surround. Good chance to buy new amps and speakers. Now!!! for a good alternative HD source. Satellite TV with a subscription to all the movie channels You will need a good sub woofer if you don't already have one. Now all you've got to do is sell the idea. Good Luck!!!! Loppy
  23. First VCR over $1000 Canadian. It was a portable. If you could lift it. Used it with a video camera. I was always into home movies but the resolution was not as good as the super 8 film of that day. Still got some pretty good tapes of my kids growing up. Now HD camcorders are on the market. Still up in the $900s here though. Dave
  24. Shouldn't we post the original so folks know what we're talking about?
  25. Not me!!! Can't get it over 'ere. Dave
