  1. Does anyone have a copy of 'The Ragmans Daughter' film. It seems to have disappeared without trace. I did see it on TV years ago but other than that where has it gone. Re Saturday Night & Sunday Morning I recently bought a copy of the Jonny Dankworth Cleo Laine 4 CD collection so I had a full version of Lets Slip Away.
  2. Hi Mick. I set up a wireless printer using a DLink wireless usb print adapter. It was a pain in the a*rs*. Very flaky and worked 50% of the time. Constantly having to re set it. If you set up a server or networked attached storage device then you could access what it was you wanted to print from anywhere in the house so maybe you wouldn't need a print server as you could print from the Pc where your printer is. Maybe that's not what you want but I would recommend you keep it as simple as you can. My neighbour has a printer with built in wi fi and that works a treat 99% of the time. If you netw
  3. Hi Mick. It sounds like you need a network attached storage device. The cheapest way would probably involve using an old pc, it can be quite an old one, nothing special and then use that as a server connected to your network. You install a small operating system specifically written for this purpose on a small usb memory stick plugged into that spare PC and that enables you to access your 1 tb hard disc inside that PC. The software is free based on Linux. I have a magazine article of how to do this. Fairly straightforward but you do need some computer knowledge. Or I am pretty sure you can bu
  4. I drove up Watnall Road the other day. Out of Hucknall towards Greasley /Kimberley. Not far after you go over the M1 motorway about 300/400 meters or so to the left is a big white(ish) spoil heap of something. It could be just before the motorway. Didn't pay a geat deal of attention but I haven't noticed it before. Would that be where you’re looking. I'll be back along there later in the week and will pay more attention.
  5. I think it was this one. A pile of poo complete with flies buzzing around http://www.unexplain...s.php?id=218369 I think the willies (or is that willy's) was another story. Looks like this story may have been cock anyway!
  6. I saw a bit on telly a few weeks ago. Scenario was girlfriend got boyfriend who was a tattooist to do her a big tat on her back. She had been cheating on him. She didn't know that he knew. She did when she looked in the mirror. She thought he was doing flowers and ferns or whatever but he had covered her back in great big co*ks. That'll teach her.
  7. Hi Notts12783. I cannot agree that my comments were un-constructive. In fact I was very much trying to be constructive and helpful. Neither did I suggest or imply that you had broken any forum rules so goodness knows why you think I was. Your original post caused me no offence at all and my comments were meant 100% with your welfare in mind. The only reason I mentioned my health issues was to highlight the importance, to you, that your health is very important and you should do everything you can to keep yours. Perhaps it wasn't what you wanted to hear. Ask away by all means. Maybe your righ
  8. This is a fantastic website but it is a nostalgia website about Nottingham and there are limits. Seeking advice on what could be a life changing decision is beyond that limit. Here is not the place. I have long term health issues and know about pain discomfort and what an absolute bast**d poor health can be. Get a second opinion. Ask questions of the specialists and doctors. Tell them your concerns and fears but here is not the place to ask. Sure people will give you an opinion but without knowing a great deal more about you and your circumstances and medical knowledge you may unintentionally
  9. Hello and welcome Trevor. My father worked for the education Department all his working life. I worked at Raleigh for a while. Mother in law at Boots, father in law transport manager at Shipstones and my wife at Sainsburys for a short time. I fail on Market trader and fireman although there was a Policeman if that counts. I think you will find Nottingham very different now as a lot has changed since 1964 and sadly not all for the better. Let us know when you come over as I and am sure some others on here would be happy to meet you and point you in the right direction.
  10. I thought this thread was Boots shoplifting Dept. I'll book a visit to Vision Express
  11. Is there any point in starting a topic inviting response and then not responding when you get a response.
  12. I take it you have read this http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9085
  13. I would go to Cambrai Northern France 21st March 1918 about 4am. I would find my Grandfather and tell him to get the hell out of there. He was killed in the huge German attack at dawn that day.
  14. There has been a piece this week in the Nottingham Evening Post Bye Gone's section that mentioned tug. In 1958 a Mr Vickers, who happens to be my neighbour and a real gent, witnessed a man running out of a bank in the market square with someone shouting 'stop thief'. Mr V being a rather big rugby player grabbed said fellow and marched him back to the bank who had apparently seen someone waiting to pay in a wad of cash and grabbed it. Tug was the first Pc to arrived and nicked him. My Mr Vickers is rather miffed that he is now an official Bye Gone!
  15. Nice one Mick (idea for a forum theme that is) A problem I have is. Years ago you could buy say a Pentax Spotmatic as I did. Now cameras would come out with new gizmo's, auto exposure, auto focus etc but your old spotmatic still focused light on a film and was capable, with care of taking a photograph as good as anything on the market. Now with digital I am reluctant to shell out on a camera as every few months the new improved bigger better comes out and the sensors improve. Somehow I've lost the plot with it all. I bought a decent compact last year and thats it. Even that has had 2 upgrades
  16. I used to be very keen on photography and still have a few of my film cameras left but am slowly selling them. All my darkroom gear has now gone too. In fact I just sold my Nikon F2 s yesterday. I still have a mint Nikon 301 which IMHO is a very underrated camera and my old Spotmatic which I will keep. Best of all I have a Linhoff Tech 70 with 3 lens with 6 x 7 and 6 x 9 backs all boxed in a Linhof case. I'll get around to selling it one day but probably a specialist auction is the best place. The funny thing is that I was mad keen on photography when it was film but just have a good digital
  17. Out of respect to a great sportsman I have used his preferred name. I was asked to post this recently. I have read that Ali was much bigger in the flesh that you thought he would be but being along side Tug hardly helps this theory does it. I remember he went to work at Lloyds bank at the bottom of St James Street after he retired form the Police.
  18. We went to a wedding reception there when I was very young. I was about 7 or 8 I think. There maybe some photos which show the interior. I'll ask and see if there are.
  19. I am pretty sure if you go in Nottingham Castle there is a touch screen computer in the Sherwood Foresters room where you can do a name search for your Grandfather. Also just because he was local does not mean he would automatically go in a local regiment. There were so many getting killed from all the regiments they had to make numbers up so it was pot luck where you finished up. My Grandfathers were both Nottingham to the core but one finished up in the South Staffordshires and the other in the Highland Light Infantry.
  20. Mick. I never did go on one of DW's trips. I did do an advanced driving course. I cannot recall my instructors name but he was an aircraft nut. We went to Holbeach one day and watched the tankbusters and Harriers having a go at a ship target. Pretty awesome.
  21. Thought you would like this Beefsteak. Taken with a Panasonic compact. I have had to reduce the file size so much it is not nearly so clear as the original. Taken 2010 by my son at Fairford I think.
  22. I am trying to upload a picture but it wont have it. Sorry for the blanks above. I give up.
  23. I had a diesel car way back in 1985 when there were very few on the road, and it was a tiny Ford Fiesta too. The number of times garage staff came out shouting 'you're putting diesel in' . Anyway coming to the point I was paying about 45p for diesel. Petrol was about 75p. Now why is diesel more expensive than petrol? To help my son out we baby sit several times a week while they work and it is a 50 mile round trip. Fuel cost are crippling me and it aint going to get better is it.
