  1. What did Nottingham win in 1997, 2001, 2003 and 2007? Cheers Robt P.
  2. Have you missed my five penn'orth on #160? Cheers Robt P.
  3. Richard Burton & Elizabeth Taylor...? Cheers Robt P.
  4. Olez: http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4800&hl= basford gasworks&st=0 There are also several other earlier threads where it gets a mention... Simply put 'Basford gasworks' in to the top right Search box. Cheers Robt P.
  5. You just have to be jesting... As I wrote in their visitors book: "Magnificent building, shame about the crap content..." Cheers Robt P.
  6. Never take my motor in for MOT before 14.00, on the grounds that the 'failures' would already have been selected... The fact I now never clock more than 2,000 miles per annum (formerly 40K+!) might be a factor in regular passes. Although sometimes maligned, I always get a top job done at my local ATS... Cheers Robt P.
  7. Even more fawning than Godfrey Talbot, Richard Dimbleby, his two sons and Tom Salmon put together... Cheers Robt P.
  8. Cliff Ton: By answering littlebro's poser, it now becomes your turn to set the next question... Cheers Robt P.
  9. (Sir) Michael Bishop on the right...I think... Could it be Tom Wheatcroft, of Donington fame? But that is Leics... My knowledge of Notts aviators begins, and ends, with Albert Ball VC. Cheers Robt P.
  10. My next door neighbour on Amesbury Circus was one Jack Taylor, a Redgate's pop delivery man. Always came home totally exhausted, partly through his work but - primarily - because of his numerous methods of securing payment from customer housewives  Cheers Robt P.
  11. Yes indeed, that was always my understanding too...accounting for the differing tastes from pub to pub. A well kept barrel providing a pleasant drink My favourite 'local' bitter (when a regular drinker in the days of yore) was undoubtedly Mansfield...which was much less prone to variation. Cheers Robt P.
  12. Have to agree...my 50's/60's idea of a real meal was a Sando's Beef Pie washed down with Carter's D&B! Perhaps the best of the current (limited) D&B selection is the the ASDA, no added sugar, version. My grandkids have become quite addicted, causing me some grief from my daughter... Cheers Robt P.
  13. Charles 'Chuck' Yeager? Cheers Robt P.
  14. Hadn't realised that Hansard reached as far as Berriedale, Castletown, Haster, Reiss, Latherton, Reay, Watten & Georgemas Jct Should have quoted your moniker as the clue...instead of wheels! Cheers Robt P.
  15. littlebro has it... Nottingham City Transport General Manager, 1931-1960. Several post-war liveries carried his name, title and vehicle garage location in a very small panel - printed at floor level - on some buses and trolleybuses. Cheers Robt P.
  16. Which significant Nottingham post was held for 29 years by Ben England? Cheers Robt P.
  17. Answered 3hrs 40 min after being posed... Cheers Robt P.
  18. Rather belatedly Stu... The line of buildings on the left side at the entrance were the Colliery Offices, where I'd regularly walk up from Area HQ to have an 'exchange of views' with Chief Clerk Bill Mayes! IIRC, the buildings opposite were the colliers changing areas...beyond which were the Pit Head Baths, with onward access to the headstocks etc. Cheers Robt P.
  19. "Dicky Dido" Nickname given to the railway workers train which shuttled between Bulwell Common Station and Annesley loco... DIDO being the acronym for Day in/Day out... Cheers Robt P.
  20. Certainly exactly as I remember it... IIRC, the two papers ran together until late 50's/early 60's? The cartoon mascots were quite well known in their day...being not just the Forester, Magpie and Stag but the Derby Ram, Chesterfield Spireite and Lincoln Imp too. A further character, drawn in a similar style, related to the long-running marketing slogan 'Ivor Thirst for Shipstones Ales'. Cheers Robt P.
  21. Perhaps if you relaxed from raising the query ad nauseum all over the group, you may get a response... Those that are likely to know will already have 'got your message'!...inane pleading won't help.
  22. Would suggest "a first class book" is rather debatable. Try Duncan Hamilton's biography...IMO, a vastly better read, factual too... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Provided-You-Dont-Kiss-Me/dp/0007247117/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1279623218&sr=1-4 Cheers Robt P.
  23. Mick...rather surprisingly, the film is already on BBCi Player. Hope the link works... http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00t61gx Cheers Robt P.
  24. On again tonight, 23.20 BBC 2... Better documentary than the ITV version, blessedly Boycott-free Cheers Robt P.
