  1. I do the same. I have a two litre ice cream container full of poppy seeds. I always take some seeds with me when I go for a walk.

  6. In 1860 there were two Bells, two Blue Bells,two Crown & Anchors,two George & Dragons,two Golden Fleeces,two Horse & Grooms, I could go on Don't forget this was in 1860 before the town boundries were changed. there were15 pubs on Long Row alone.
  7. Not as long as it is only one in each town. There are lots of Red Lions or Coach & Horses in differant places Don't forget there was two Town Arms in Nottingham the 60s?
  8. The Old Pack Horse(ex Hardy Hansons/Green King) in Loughborough has been bought by The Blue Monkey Brewery & is due to re-open some time later this month as "The Organ Grinder"
  9. Some times our bus(no 39) would stop outside this place comming back from my grandparents (late 50s) I can remember the arms moving(changing colour) wasn't there a dolls hospital somewhere near? or was that somewhere else.

  12. Was in the Lincoln Poacher Yesterday & they had copies of The Notts Drinker and according to that magazine "The Globe" shut for good on the 5th of May

  15. I have a map when there were three pubs on Broad Marsh , two on Drury Hill & six on Narrow Marsh.
  16. Sorry at the preasant no . I don't have a working scanner & cash is a little tight. Other Co-op factories hit on the night of May 8th/9th 1941 were the boot factory(total loss0 cheese factory & garage (minor damage) Information NOTTINGHAM CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY LIMITED 1863- 1944 also hit on the night of May 8th/9th night was (amongst others) the southern end of the Nottingham Suburban Railway , The Moot Hall(pub) University College(Shakespeare Street) & Notts County Football ground.
  17. I have only just found this forum as it was right at the bottom of the page. I have a large(ish) allotment here in Loughborough It is about 300sq yards in area & is abot 5 minuets walk from my house. I have going at the moment Celaric,potatoes,parsnips,carrots,leeks,runner beans,squash,spinach,beetroot,sweed,turnips,French beens,tomatoes & courgettes.
  18. This particular photo is not of NarrowMarsh/Red Lion Street but of one of the many side yards that went down to Canal Steet/Leen Side.There was no gutter down the centre of Red Lion Street & ther was a pavement there too.
  19. There is a photo of the plaque in "Nottingham at War" published by the Evening Post in 1986 Geoff Blore's book shop may have a copy (I got mine from there).
  20. I keep my phobile moan for emergancies I bought the thing (pay as you go) in October 2007. It had £10 on it & I have "topped" it up twice(£10 each time)I still have about £3 left.
  21. Carlton House is at the end of mount Pleasant Road which is off Main Street between Southdale Road & Church Street.(St Paul's Church) Park's Corner is/was at the junction of Burton Road,Gedling Road & Manor Road
  22. I don't have a working scanner but as the maps are over 15" square It would be non to easy to put on line. To reduce image in size would loose some detail. As I have said before I am willing to copy any maps & bring them over when I come to Nottingham(at least twice a month) Photo copies are about £2.50 each full size 20 x22"( out of copyrite).
