  1. Hi Bip, it would seem that romance has bought out a different side to the Bip we all know and love, stories of train spotting although not in any professional way and not wanting to leave your good lady on her own with Diezel for too long either, I have also noticed the spelling has improved in some of your recent post, Beatrice is certainly bringing the best out in you Rog
  2. I agree with you Ian, made me laugh out loud, just going back to aviation, the typhoons that went to the Falklands, one had to turn back because of some problem or other, the rest I was told had to have the Falkland crest removed from their tails because the Argies have seen sending typhoons as an act of aggression, don't recall any Brit complaining about them buying a squadron or escadrill or whatever of F16s, have you heard any thing on that one either of you? Rog
  3. Yes Pete I did see the programm, the reason Pete Jackson cropped up was the name of his company "Witta" named after the Witter insect an endangered species in New Zealand, the Lanc did look good though as you say, complete with "upkeep" bouncing bomb, I also agree with you about the code word "nigger" I understand in this new film the code word will be "trigger" can't recall Gibson having a pet horse Rog
  4. Ayup Pete, Torch it on November 5th Rog
  5. When I were a kid the goose fair always started on the Thursday of the first full week in October it seems now it starts in September and runs for 4 days instead of 3, A mate of mine worked on the fairs and he once told me that they made their ground rent and other expenses in the first 2 hours of the fair opening after that it was all profit, no doubt the tax man doesn't see all of his fair share either. And the only goose I have ever seen there was that plastic excuse in the middle of the traffic island on Mansfield road. Rog
  6. I know what you mean Tich, these inconsiderate motorists aren't content with being on the road they want to take up half the pavement as well, not leaving much room for me to ride along the pavement on me bike Rog
  7. Only ever been in it twice and managed to bump my head on both occasions, it was between the the central isle and the cockpit, bad headache for the rest of the day, but I agree, cracking view from the blister windows Rog
  8. Probably back at the station writing out all the reports about nothing so that some jobsworth can put out some statistics to tell the people how good they are doing Rog
  9. I think it's proper name is Ducal Palace for some reason, I too have a friend who visits me from Scotland and he always says "It's not a proper castle" what an embarrassment. To think he shows me all the castles in Scotland near to where he lives (Edinburgh) and all I can show him is that miserable excuse. Rog
  10. Reliant Rialto,Reliant Robin, Rover 216sli, Vauxhall Corsa plus company Toyota pick up Rog
  11. Bl@@dy hell Pete, I can remember that thing, it looked like a miniature totem pole in some sort of liquid as you say, if you walked up Drury hill the shop was on the left, the bottle was in a side window to the right of the door, must have been an antique shop, funnily enough I have seen it since Drury hill was pulled down but can't for the life of me remember where, it was in another antique shop though that I'm sure of and it was in Nottingham maybe up Derby road in one of those shops on the right as you are going up, funny how things come to the front of your mind by just the smallest of me
  12. Just had a similar moment here as well, the silver Spitfire over my place heading back to Coningsby from the west, Nottingham area maybe? Rog
  13. So there is some talent in Sawley after all Rog
  14. I agree Penfold, hoodies with pension books, they're a menace on the pavement and even worse on the roads, should'nt be allowed out unsupervised Rog
  15. Ayup PB, Very interesting read, thats what nostalgia (Nottstalgia) is all about, a fondness for our heritage/history Rog
  16. Nearly forgot this one, It's across the road from the first picture (the half timbered one) on the corner of Middlegate and Kirkgate as you can see it's the Boars head built in 1883. if the Spread Eagle was at number 7 you could have fell out of it's door and staggered across the road about 20 feet and fell in the Boars head pub. Rog
  17. Would that be Plumtre square that ran down past the Town arms pub? some one was posting about Granby electrical or Granby and Key in that area not long ago. Aren't all the paving slabs at the back of St Mary's church old head stones from the plague era? seem to recall reading about them somewhere but not sure where now Rog
  18. would that be Jack Bruce who played along with Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton in the group Cream? brilliant Rog what about Snoopy of Red Baron fame?
  19. Possibly a partial success to your quest Daniel, on the left in this picture a few doors up probably number 13 or 15 is a chip shop, Bentley's fish restaurant could this be the one your aunt spoke of? there are plenty of private alley ways along here, (non accessible though) that lead to the market square, some are still cobbled as you say, i will try and get some more pics for you next weekend if time permits, hope this has been helpful Cheers Rog
  20. The shop called Fab and Shirt Sleeves are on the site of number 7 Middlegate as you can see it's a more modern building probably 1960's buildings either side are old though, does this suggest a fire at number 7? Rog
  21. Hi Daniel, This is a pic of Middlegate Newark, it would seem that No7 no longer exists as original building for whatever reason, no one I spoke to today on the street had any knowledge of the Spread Eagle. more pics to follow Rog
  22. Have a good day Pete as I'm sure you will, post plenty of pics Rog
  23. No more than usual Pete as in the BBMF are up and flying at least once a week, nothing special though such as film crews knocking about etc and nothing on the grapevine, going back to the special Lancaster, there was a program on TV either early this year or late on last about some dig in France to do with excavating a 617 squadron Lanc and they identified it by this special (one off?)bit of turret, they traced it back on the original AVRO plans and discovered it was the 617 Lanc they were looking for, did anyone see the program? Rog By the way, some of the Typhoons have gone to the Falkland
  24. Very interesting stuff there littlebro, is it a long term exhibition? if so it could well feature in our next aviation day at the end of October/beginning of November. By the way aviation started in Lincolnshire before 1914, Todays RAF Cranwell was first opened up as a Royal Navy training station with flying being the main topic of training and there was also RFC Leadenham just up the road from Cranwell, Why don't you come on one of the Aviation days? I'm sure you would enjoy it Rog
  25. Ayup Gilbertson, I only live a few miles from Newark if you want I can nip down at the weekend and get a few pictures for you, anything in particular? Rog
