  1. The report of the funeral of Thomas Turner from the Nottingham Journal , May 28th 1953 . It was made worse by the fact his widow Diana Waycott Turner died (the same day as the funeral ) after taking an overdose of sleeping tablets . This may be a reason the family weren't talked about ? "FUNERAL OF MR. T. TURNER At the funeral service held at Wilford Hill yesterday for Mr.Thomas Turner, of Old Mill House, Bleasby. who died on Monday. there were representatives of the owners and staff of the Black Boy Hotel. Nottingham, of which Mr. Turner had been a trustee.
  2. I doubt I could add much more at the moment but will have a look and report back if anything found .
  3. Assuming neighbour Violet Hoare was still at number 8 in 1969 and then looking on streetview , you could deduce the bungalow would be number 6 . None of the neighbouring houses are bungalows though there appear to be changes with some new builds.
  4. Further to the above , just checked the 1939 Register and a Violet Hoare was living at 8 Moore Road . Of course nothing to say she was still in the same house 30 years later .
  5. Ah that's why I couldn't see anything as it was in the 60s not the 70s. Theres a Daily Mirror report that the body was found in a bungalow on Moore Rd and the neighbour was called Mrs Violet Hoare . May help ? Electoral Rolls may not help as the victim had only lived in the property for 2 weeks.
  6. We have our Alexa device in the kitchen and subscribe to Amazon prime which gives us any music we care to ask it to play , usually whilst cooking. We also use "her" for timing whilst preparing food , I.e. "Alexa set timer for 25 mins" You can also use it as a free video phone for family and friends ( models with a screen ) as long as they have a similar device. Mines also linked to our front door security camera though the picture is on a slight delay to be of much use .
  7. If they carry on like this can't see Hughton lasting much longer . Negative tactics. What does Carvalho have to do to get in the team ? Scores two goals in the cup and then dropped , only to appear in the last few mins. Man of the match in the cup Fornah , doesn't get a look in. Half an hour to go against 10 men should have subbed some of defence for more attackers but no , still played the cautious game .
  8. There is one reference to the Lucy Flynn murder on Porchester Rd . It was reported in a Liverpool paper in August 1981 . Might be an idea to join this Mapperley page on Facebook and ask the question about Moore Road. https://m.facebook.com/groups/303831217328466?group_view_referrer=search
  9. I couldn't find anything in the online news archives for this . Problem is the Nottingham Evening Post ,on the archive online, only go up to 1950s. Sometimes if the story is big enough it will be syndicated to other national and regional papers that have been digitised and that show stories from the 60s on. Using the search term "Moore Road" and "murder" nothing shows up on any newspaper in the 70s.
  10. I've seen Andy ( Bubblewrap) posting on a Facebook page in the last week or so.
  11. I found it via the newspaper archive in my subscription to FMP. The same database is here , you can view snippets for free but to view full articles you have to pay . This should link to the two mentions of the sale : https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/search/results?basicsearch=q pelotto&somesearch=q pelotto&retrievecountrycounts=false&place=nottingham%2c nottinghamshire%2c england Oops cant embed you will have to copy and paste .
  12. Presume this was their daughter Maria Teresa's wedding ? A Parsons Green Wedding ......on Saturday, the Rev. W. S. Carter, D.O, officiating, when the contracting parties were Miss Marie Pelotto, only daughter of Mr. and the late Mrs. Pelotto, of the Albion Hotel, Gillingham-street, Pimlico, and Mr. Albert Noel Butler, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs Butler of Fulham 11 September 1925 - Chelsea News and General Advertiser - London, London,
  13. Mr Pelotto was there in June 1898 when the freehold of the Cafe Royale was advertised for sale at a rental of £140 rising to £170 per annum . Can also see mention of an Alfredo Pelotto who is mentioned at 2 different premises in 1902 . The first was 8 Ferry St and the second being the Gladstone Inn at Lower Eldon Street . You would assume he was related ? Did Quintina marry a cousin ? There are a couple of births for the couple , Umberto born 1898 , Pimlico and Marie Teresa born 1900 Nottingham . They give mothers maiden name of Pelotto for both. Quintino and his wife Alexandri
  14. It comes up "My Murder" by The Jungklas though looking at comments not so sure ?
  15. On the electoral registers the last mention for the three names you mention was in 2008 in Wellington , Somerset .
  16. Not played much but this Roy Orbison song is a stunner . Written by Jeff Lynn. However , after playing it , found I was whistling the tune to myself and it sort of morphed into Nessun Dorma ! Maybe it's the strings on this version that make it sound similar ?
  17. Just found this from The Mansfield Reporter August 1st 1913 and again assume it refers to this school : "Carlton, site for a permanent upper standard school............ The Committee had had sketch plans prepared of a school at Carlton for 400 upper standard scholars, with rooms for domestic subjects for girls, and manual training for boys, to be erected on the site recently purchased. The estimated cost was £7,600".
  18. Welcome Brendon , My mum lived on Park Rd , just to the east of that school . I have her report card for 1926 (when she would have been 13) and it gives the name of her school as . "CARLTON UPPER STANDARD COUNCIL SCHOOL" I assume it was that school . According to someone on the Gedling Local History Facebook page it later became "Carlton Central County Primary School" . Later that was demolished and turned into Carlton Precinct.
  19. Thanks CT . No not the best quality but was taken from an NEP picture quiz in 1947. I tried to lighten it a bit but that's how old but newly digitised newspaper pictures sometimes appear. Something to do with the OCR software .
  20. I'd never heard of it but one reference says it was Sandy Lane , Bramcote . There could be a map expert along later who may be able to highlight it .
  21. Could be that . As another example , on the same FB page , someone asked what a long derelict shop used to be . So far 165 replies of which the same retailers name has been repeated 35 times !
  22. To be honest it happens all the time . As well as this query , on our local FB page a lady asked about a local manor house that was demolished in the 1950s . As it happens , sometime ago , I had already researched the house and the family that had lived there for hundreds of years and wrote it up on a blog post with as many pics as I could find . I provided a link to this article and not had either a thank you from the original poster or even a "like". To add insult , the few others that also replied to her query, completely ignored my info and recommended other
  23. Mmmmm no reply, obviously not the right info .!
  24. Can only see one ref in 1950 to the Deccan Club . A customer thanking a Mr and Mrs Brooks for a marriage reception held there .
