I grew up on a council estate in the 50s and if we heard bad language from anyone they were considered real common,certainly it was'nt used by my parents except in very rare heated arguments.Dad was a 'railwayman' and i am sure at work he could hold his own.   3. *acking hell Firbeck'........LOL,...ive spent years in East and South London in fact had an office in Mitchum (surrey) and i tend to lump the Essex accent with those areas as well, i worked with some amazing 'Geezers' who swore all the time,and being the way i am had brilliant banter with em,and i did find em funny. I appreciate what you say about some of the unsavoury types,we get them everywhere don't we.

  5. #7 SOMEHOW Firbeck the Essex way of swearing does'nt sound so vulgar' for instance, they pronounce the 'f' word with an A' and the 'C' word, and i almost find it funny.

  7. Don't get me wrong i can 'swear' with the rest of em' but i think theres a time and place for it, i worked all over the country and obviuosly heard folk swearing everywhere,however not as much as Nottingham,which i reckon must be the swearing capital of England. Am i alone in this ?

  10. There used to be a shop top of the hill Tibbles,bet my cat called in there as well lol,and another funny thing (ref my cat) and Tibbles shop,they had a local milk round.

At the Forman st offices i remember men collecting a bundle of Football posts or news,then set off running in different directions shouting 'FOOTBALL' .i remember one in particular (and he was no spring chicken) used to run down Parliament st past Sneinton Market and onto sneinton dale,such was the popularity of the 'Football papers'
  16. Does anyone remember the little cafe at Carrington st.goods depot, van drivers and van-lads used it before setting off around the city to deliver parcels from Station st,...i recall having Tomatoes on toast and a cuppa for about 1/6,.........1960.
  17. #1826.............i remember one of them at Victoria Station 1960, i was a 'van-lad at Midland station at the time, even remember the driver big fat chap.
  18. Early 50s my 1st interest in football and i think the 'green un' was just a sheet produced with just the days results on it.
