  1. WHICH island was the 'kamikazi one Ashley?.............yes i am within walking distance of the Tram and the other public transport still takes longer than theTram with the traffic etc. and is not so regular.
  2. There was a fair bit of 'corporal punishment' at Padstow in the 50s but nothing over the top, we accepted it and one Teacher always added after the deed,'now what do you say? the answer he was looking for and always got was, 'THANK YOU SIR'
  3. I CAN ONLY speak as i find, the tram is handy, comfortable, clean and cheap,i no longer have the hassle of driving into town and finding somewhere to park at great expense, and i mostly end up having a chat with someone.i am sure my trips into town would be far less frequent without it.
  4. I agree bazza' the Tram is great, and promotes people talking to each other, rather than sat in a jam by ya'sen. Our road system is also good but there are just too many cars,or i should say people,.......we are full!
  5. Amazing how threads evoke memories, when 'chullah' mentioned 'chick murray' i instantly recalled me Mam singing and Dad standing behind her pulling the faces 'chick' used.,and all the family laughing. I am sure family laughter was far more prevelent in the 50s,or was i just lucky?

  8. The house in the grounds of Farrands was occupied by a Bloke called Joe Scothern and his family and he and his two sons were the 'mechanics' for all Farrands vehicles,an old workmate Bernard Montgomery' (how could i forget his name) married Scotherns' daughter.
  9. I HAD a friend owned one of them,he also had the shop a bit lower down 'Paper Lad' in the 80s. would love to know what became of them Garry and Sharon Burton. They went to live in Spain and i lost the address.
  10. MENTION of the Beechdale pub, brought back alot of memories of blokes i worked with at Frank Farrands Wigman rd on the island you spoke off,we used to meet at the 'Beechdale' on friday nights to get our instructions of where to work for the weekend, that would be early to mid 60s. I was involved in their 'security' it was'nt our Cider was it ?
