  2. I buy Bygones regularly and on the whole enjoy the "lookbacks". Sometimes though it is not worth buying because as you say the amount of features relating to the main picture are not very much. I've not bought the last 2 issues as on looking through them I didn't think they were worth buying. I agree that they ought to have more reminiscing from readers but is the reason people aren't contributing much sometimes?

  5. Here's a link to a site which covers old tunnels, viaducts etc around the country including Nottingham. You'll have to know the names of the tunnels before you can see the photos if available. Might be of some use! http://www.forgottenrelics.co.uk/index.html
  6. I've not seen a ready reckoner for years and years - don't know if they are still available or not.
  7. I saw it on a map I bought from Waterstones yesterday (it was 1913 and not as I previously said). It's part of a series from alangodfreymaps covering Nottingham North (inc Mapperely and Carrington) - an old Ordanance Survey map and only £2.50 for each map (I ended up buying 8 of different areas of Nottingham!)
  8. Just found there were shops on the site in 1951 so I presume the brewery was demolished in the late 40's as you said Cliff Ton.
  9. Thanks! I know it was still on the map that I've got for 1911 but not sure what happened after that. Your info is appreciated and helps to narrow it down.
  10. Hi, Thanks for the link but I've already checked out that site and although it mentions that Shipstones took over Carrington brewery it doesn't mention about the closure. Thanks anyway!
  11. Does anyone know when Carrington Brewery closed and when pulled down? Thanks for any assistance.
  12. I can't stand Ricky Gervais either.
  13. Here's a quote below from an article about workhouses including Bagthorpe:- "The workhouse later became Nottingham Poor Law Institution then in 1937 was renamed Valebrook Lodge. The infirmary, originally known as Bagthorpe Infirmary, was called City Infirmary from 1930-37, then City Hospital. After the inauguration of the National Health Service in 1948, the workhouse section of the premises was initially known as City Hospital South. In 1951, it became Sherwood Hospital and provided accommodation for chronic cases until 1983. Most of main workhouse buildings no longer exist but the administr

  15. My favourites are "Open All Hours" - "Dinnerladies" and "One Foot In The Grave". Another I found very funny but not strictly a comedy show I suppose was "A Pint of Lager & A Packet Of Crisps"

  19. I had a card through my lettebox last Friday from the postman and it stated that the sender didn't pay the full postage and I would have to collect from the depot and pay £1.20 which includes £1 handling fee. After 21 days if I do not collect the item it will be returned to the sender.
