  1. The marriage of Douglas G Hawthorn and Sarah E Heathcote in 1933 is listed on BMD and you will be able to obtain a copy of the marriage certificate for that entry.
  2. Robbie, Presumably you will be ordering the marriage certificate for that entry from The Nottingham Register Office in the Council House?
  3. Did you see Sarah Elizabeth Heathcote born 1908 in Chesterfield is listed?
  4. Robbie, that information is confirmed on the FreeBMD site.
  5. Welcome to Nottstalgia picko. I was opposite to you, Union on Saturdays and Boat on Sundays, great times. Never went to the Slipper though.
  6. Eh, welsh rabbitt you say? very nice too
  7. #111 Mick Taylor left the Stones because Keith Richards couldn't stand him and made it very clear. Stones loss, Taylor was the better man! BTW - Blues from Laurel Canyon was another great Mayall album.
  8. Oh I see, Margie. That explains things. My sister and her friend made some and invited me to a 'tea-party'. I thought they tasted a bit funny!
  9. Long time since I've heard that. I lent my Wheels of Fire to a 'mate' from school who never returned it.
  10. Sterilised soil and no worms in Margie? I bet those mud-pies didn't taste as good as the ones you 'baked'.
  11. Mentioning the harmonica on another thread today reminded me of this track from my favourite John Mayall album, The Blues Alone. Catch That Train..
  12. #14 You're right of course, it is a matter of perspective. But I thought Trevor's comments bought back many childhood memories of great times. The natural response is then to make comparisons with today, but for me, that misses the point. There doesn't really need to be comparisons. What we had, we had. And we were lucky, they were truly great times weren't they?
  13. Yes carni, the Blackpool organ is a Wurlitzer. I don't think it's the original one, as played by Reginald Dixon. Wurlitzer theatre organs are very rare I believe and must be one of the most magnificent instruments ever produced.
  14. #14 Great to share your memories vulcan4. When I was very young, I recall my grandad showing me the bomb craters at Lady Bay. We used to play in the old bomb shelter between Turney St and Bathley St in the Medders in the fifties. That's long gone, but there is one on Lady Bay Road, the entrance to it is still visible.
  15. Lovely playing, loppylugs. I'm always in awe of people who can stir the soul by playing a musical instrument really well. And can read music too! I've been learning the guitar since about 1968. And trying to bend a note on a harmonica for about the same time. Still, I have patience and I'm still working on it.
  16. The benefits of zero hour contracts lie mainly with employers. They might be alright for some employees that are comfortably off, flexible and don't need full-time hours. But for most workers, especially with families, the lack of regular hours and income must make managing their finances very difficult. They'll probably only be on minimum pay as well.
  17. My doctor used to be the same. His jacket was always covered in ash and you'd wait expectantly for the long ash on his fag to drop off. Yes, in those days smoking was 'medicinal'. It cleared the lungs!
  18. Weren't Volvo drivers always supposed to be the sensible, conservative, grey and boring types, that wouldn't know what the finger was, even if it was shoved up their noses?
  19. Smoking should be banned everywhere!
  20. Wot, kettle calling the pot black?
  21. What was that bit of Brum-eye from another thread - Grite, kipper tie?
  22. Eastenders, Coronation St, Emerdale and Punk all in the same thread. About right!
