  1. Always pleased to give gardening tips Barrie!
  2. I bought my first fly Rod direct from Hardys. I practiced my casting on the field at home but when I took it to Ladybower for its first proper outing the tip section snapped in half! I’ve got all the fly fishing kit but it’s ’dead man’s shoes’ to get into any of the fly fisheries round here. I prefer Scottish Lochs to disused gravel ponds anyway!
  3. I see that Walkers of Trowell have closed down due to retirement. That will be a loss to the shooting and fishing community. I used to visit regularly. I bought my Theoben Rapid 7 .22 air rifle from there but I’ve not been for some years.
  4. He has given man free will; so basically you can do what you like - until the day of reckoning!
  5. Waltons are pretty big in the shed world. They make a sheds for other companies under different names. Just looked on their site. 8’x6’ seem to be from £360 upwards
  6. I’ve just been reading up on him. A divorcee who had an affair with a married woman. He describes himself as ‘a man of deep Christian faith’. I like to see a bit of hypocrisy amongst politicians!
  7. Have you been to Waltons at Sutton on Trent? (on the Old Great North Rd.) They had a large number of sheds on display last time I went.
  8. Not exactly ‘immortal bard’ standard but not remotely offensive!
  9. There’s usually a wide variety of flowers including yellow rattle, buttercups and wild orchids. It’s been in the hands of my family since 1962. It was originally rented out to farmers and I remember mangel wurzles, cattle, wheat and potatoes. It was used as grazing for horses and ponies for many years but around 25 years ago we decided to keep it as a wildlife meadow, although, to stop it turning into scrub, we have the hay cut every year and a farmer cuts the hedge for us. All the plants are self set and there’s been no artificial fertiliser. The two far corners are left thick with brambles a
  10. I was up at 5am today. I flung open the windows and climbed in!
  11. Yes, that’s the wildlife/flower meadow. I’ll post a monthly shot until haymaking.
  12. The Landy’s worth a punt Rog. Would fetch a good price when restored. You know you want a project! I like Landys. I had one back in ‘97 ‘till it got nicked. Swb County diesel in red. Keep looking at them now but they’re quite pricey.
  13. My father held the maximum amount of bonds for a couple of years but didn’t win a bean. I’ve never held any. I do the lottery and Euromillions and consider that my contribution to charitable causes.
  14. Not been there for years. Must go again when the road’s clear!
  15. I’ve been over that bridge by rail (on the way to Perth on business) and under by road but I’ve never sailed beneath. I’ve also been to Grangemouth when it was owned by BP Chemicals (now owned by Ineos). The trip to Grangemouth was an interesting day out. East Midlands to Glasgow, hire car to Grangemouth. A trip round the laboratories to discuss polymer technology followed by lunch. We then had a few hours to kill so we drove round the Trossachs, past Loch Lomond and back to Glasgow, picking up a haggis on the way, and then a flight back to EMA. Home in time for dinner! I wish I was back at wo
  16. In Scotland you need a licence for an airgun. Funny lot the Scots! Yesterday I saw the biggest rat ever. A neighbour keeps chickens so I guess it was after their food. By the time I’d come in to get my rifle it was gone!
  17. No, Barrie, you’ll be up the creek without one.
  18. The last thing I want to do is go on a cruise. You have to dress for dinner!
  19. It all seems a bit vague about shooting vermin. You have to be an ‘authorised person’ and work within the terms of the licence but you don’t have to apply for the licence.
  20. ‘Three men in a boat’ Barrie. You’re the third.
