  1. W. Hardy and Sons of Jericho Farm Lambley do have a website which may be of interest.
  2. I used to go flying with John Hardy some years ago. He kept a Piper Cub at Tollerton. He was a member of 'The Flying Farmers Association' so he was able to drop into various obscure airstrips of fellow members. I have a recollection of flying into a turkey farm near Collingham! I've not seen him for some years although I notice his airstrip is still active when I occasionally pass by.
  3. The only farmer I know in Lambley is John Hardy. He has a grass airstrip at the top of the hill on the Woodborough road.
  4. I often pass through Ompton. There’s a 40 mph speed limit on the busy main road through the village. Some years ago an enterprising villager set up a spoof yellow speed camera in his garden beside the road. The local authority didn’t like it but couldn’t do anything. When I passed by yesterday it was still there but looking a bit faded. I’m sure it has a deterrent effect though.
  5. That’s true. I’ve never been interested in popular culture. Innit!
  6. Sadly those who watch those shows represent a large proportion of the population. I sometimes wonder where I went wrong in not being able to join that group.
  7. There's a big basket of those on the hearth in our state dining room but I thought they were just there for decoration. They maybe part of my wife's witchcraft pursuits.
  8. Ah, the Michael Fish weather kit!
  9. There's always Michael McIntyre with 'The Wheel' or Danny Dyer with 'The Wall' if you’re looking for something more cerebral!
  10. I take a keen interest in meteorology and have have electronic equipment including an anemometer and a rain gauge sending information to my weather station. I have a mercury barometer, an aneroid one and a barograph which produces hard copy charts. I also have a bunch of seaweed!
  11. I just want an accurate scientific weather forecast. Not some dolly bird making a chatty presentation about ‘how it’s going to be a bit chilly tomorrow’. If I wanted titillation I could go to a pole dancing club. (not that I know of any!)
  12. That’s the problem with three multiple choice questions. One answer is totally silly and can be discounted. The other two are a toss up and require a bit of thought. It may be similar on the driving test theory exam.
  13. I think many of them are presenters rather than qualified meteorologists. I once passed a meteorological exam but it was multiple choice questions!
  14. Ah, you watch the local TV news as well!
  15. @nonnaB I remember the Italian television weather forecasts of old when they were given by a military officer in full uniform, gold braid and all. I've not been over for many years, does it still happen?
  16. It was always all about money. Things usually are. No doubt the other ‘royals’ have leant on him so as not to have sensationalism spoiling the Queen’s jubilee year. No doubt he will be put out to grass away from the pubic eye for some years until the furore dies down.
  17. I see that he’s paying up and settling out of court. That’s ruined one of this year’s potential entertainment highlights then!
  18. That reminded me to find my Carly Simon cd's. I really like her music. Thanks!
  19. That may have been the same night I walked the 14 miles home from Nottingham. No trains, no buses, not feasible to drive. It was thick fog and freezing cold. I stopped in a few pubs on the way back to have a warming Scotch but there were no pubs between Burton Joyce and Lowdham and not another until Thurgarton. Got home about 10.30 where my mother told me ‘your dinner’s a bit dried up, it’s been in the oven for a long time!’ Never had to do that again thank goodness.
  20. Lady Chatterley’s Lover - the sequel!
  21. Oh right. I've not been that way for a few years but I did drive along Alfreton Rd. recently and was appalled to see what a run down area that had become.
  22. Alfreton Rd., Arkwright St. and Mansfield Rd.used to have a diverse selection of shops in the 60’s/70’s. Arkwright St. is now predominantly housing, Alfreton Rd. is a run down, no go area and only Mansfield Road remains as being vaguely interesting
  23. That's the shop. We lived just off Thackeray's Lane. Phone 262824. Very similar to the Home Brewery's number. People used to say 'is that the Home Brewery' and I would say 'I wish it was!'
  24. Gallon's was's the sweet shop and newsagent's. Mr Gallon looked a bit like Mr. Punch! At the end of that row was a greengrocer's. Maybe a drapery shop in between. Over the road from that was Harwood's the butcher's and over the road from that was Marsden's. Just past the blue brick railway bridge was Cook's the Chemists and across the road from that was Dabell's general store. The No 10 'bus terminus was originally there at the bottom of Buckingham Rd. before moving up Arno Vale Rd. near to the school.
  25. The one I recollect from my childhood was on the Thackeray’s Lane roundabout in Woodthorpe. I think it’s an estate agent’s now.
