  1. I would love to attend a meet up but I am grossly disfigured and only have one leg. This makes it extremely difficult for me to socialise. Please don’t feel sorry for me.
  2. No close neighbours to bother me - not that I would be bothered! It wouldn’t start due to a low battery so it’s on charge now. It’s just too bloody cold and windy for outdoor fun and I can’t find my gloves. Your fingerless ones just wouldn’t cut it today!
  3. Probably won’t buy another. Getting too old for excitement. Same thing goes for attending a meet up.
  4. Sadly that Morgan is long sold. I can only dream about that. Should I buy another - could I even get in to one? Perhaps when Spring is here.
  5. If I walk 2 miles there's one every half hour but by the time I've driven to the bus stop, where there's nowhere to park anyway, I might as well stay in the warmth and comfort of the car.
  6. I rather fancy getting the quad bike out and bombing round the field in the snow but my wife says "what will people think about someone of your age doing that"? Perhaps I'll wait until it gets dark.
  7. I’m looking at the hills on both sides of the Trent Valley, we’re bang in the middle, and there’s hardly any snow worth bothering about. Our backlane is very slippery with compacted snow but once you get out into the village all the roads are clear. I believe for us the worst is over.
  8. No buses here so I don’t have a bus pass.
  9. It might even persuade me to get off my backside. Purely as an observer of course.
  10. You won’t be having your next meet-up there then? Might get a good turn out.
  11. I knew Spingfield Hosiery well. They were clients when I was in the accountancy business and I’ve worked there many times. They had an office building of traditional Bulwell stone with a wide staircase leading to the director’s offices. They had pleasant gardens through which the river Leen flowed.
  12. I rember the Brough factory at Catchem’s Corner on Vernon Rd. The Haydn Rd. factory was part of our factory complex and sadly, in the interest of progress, I was responsible for its demolition to be replaced by a modern industrial unit. I did have the bikers from the owner’s club round for a viewing prior to the demolition.
  13. I never could understand the Irish. My company had a factory in Dublin so I am familiar with “Irish ways”
  14. Well having been at Mellish for 7 years in the 50’s/early 60’s, I regard myself as a part time honorary Bulwegian. It was an alright sort of place back then.
  15. We don’t tend to get much drifting here in the Trent Valley as the countryside is less open than round your way. We’ve had 4x4’s since before they became fashionable so we’ve never been stuck but the village shop closed a couple of years ago so we have to go to Southwell or Fiskerton for supplies. We’ve got enough stuff to knock a chilli con carne together for tonight so I’m not going to venture out. I think we’ve seen the last of the proper snow and the outside temperature has risen to minus 0.4 C. It’s just the wind chill that’s nasty as it’s currently blowing at 22mph.
  16. You must be warm and snug out in the fens Rog. I’ve just been outside with my 2 stroke leaf/ snow blower to clear a path from the door to the garage but it was just too cold to carry on. I couldn’t find any gloves, fingerless or otherwise so I’m leaning up against the radiator thawing out!
  17. They’re nice. Have you got matching toeless socks?
  18. 1001 cleans a big, big carpet for less than half a crown!
  19. What about those dreadful stick-on rear screen demisters and the front screen heaters with suction cups?
  20. Bob Sansom is a bit of a number plate fetishist!
  21. We’ve got plates that allude to our surnames within the family. Just a bit of fun really!
  22. I never understood fingerless gloves. It’s not the palms of you hands that feel the cold. I remember bus conductors used to wear them to count out the change. I’ll see if I can find my thermal gloves so I can cut the fingers off and experiment in the interests of science. I think they’re in my “winter bag” together with my thermal woolly hat. I’ll cut the top out of that as well - I still have hair!
  23. I believe that was on King St. I think Redmayne and Todd took on Suggs. I rember AW Shelton. I did their accounts in the 60’s when I was in the accountancy profession.
  24. I suppose a lot of us older generation have experienced the bad times and know what it’s like to be not very well off. We now enjoy our relatively affluent life style which our kids take for granted.
