  1. Yes but I've expelled her from the Caledonian Society!
  2. We’re about to start our lockdown Burn’s night celebrations. We have the haggis, tattles and neaps but we can’t make cranachan as the farm shop had sold out of raspberries. Neither had they any fine malts, so I had to make do with a blend. Somewhere within these walls I have a set of bagpipes but my wife refuses to tell me where she’s hidden them. It’ll be just a very muted celebration then. I’ll go an pour meself a wee dram, the lassie she dinnie tak strong drink.
  3. Even my wife, who normally knows everything that's going on, is in the dark!
  4. It actually landed in the field next to the Waggon and Horses pub in Bleasby. Someone has published it on Facebook. I've yet to see someone who knows what it was all about. We're 10 miles away from Netherfield.
  5. I worked in Basford for 25 years so I had to modify my accent to make myself understood. One of my co- directors, who was public school educated, often needed me to translate! My parents, both originally from the Meadows via Sneinton Dale never spoke with a Nottingham accent. Neither did their siblings.
  6. I used to live in Woodthorpe where everybody talked proppa!
  7. That’s why I’m taking in quinine by drinking tonic water with my gin.
  8. We’re almost in the south here. Just half a mile north of the Trent so we don’t get the bad weather that you lot get up north! I’m looking at the palm trees gently waving in the light breeze as the sun beats down.
  9. Where is the snow everyone's talking about?
  10. Proper Cornish pasties with the main course in one half and the pudding in the other?
  11. @nonnaBOnly kidding. In all my travels around Europe, Italian food is by far the best. I do like a traditional steak and kidney pie though! La Bucca was my restaurant of choice on a Saturday night all those years ago!
  12. It was the air ambulance. It landed in the field next to the Waggon. It’s just taking off now. It’s just flown over the house on its way back to base at Waddington. It didn’t have the transponder on when it flew in but it’s switched on now. It probably wasn’t needed for transport. No doubt I will hear all about it on the village grapevine. I’m watching it on Flight Radar.
  13. A big yellow helicopter has just landed in a nearby field. I think it might be the air ambulance but I’ve not heard sirens. If it wasn’t so cold out there I’d go and have a look.
  14. I know a couple who go there and they're both elderly weirdos. They tried to join the village church when they they first came to live here but were castigated by their fellow Christians for pinching their hallowed pew places. Apparently there's a pecking order! They've been driven out to live in Farnsfield now. We don't be likin' incomers in these parts!
  15. ‘Italians prefer prefer proper English food rather than that foreign muck they are forced to eat every day’!
  16. Trying to give a worming tablet to a cat!
  17. I suppose she is! It’s worth a try isn’t it?
  18. Neither is my wife. I was hoping for a joint session but she'll be there in case I have a funny turn.
  19. Whoopee! After reading of others’ success I’ve booked myself in to Newark showground next Saturday a.m. That’s a shot in the arm!
  20. @BeekayI think the American Automobiles garage was on the LHS of Ilkeston Rd., before Faraday Rd. Willbonds are in an old building and I think it was just past there, where the student flats are now. I’ve never had cause to go round there in over 25 years. RR may be able to be more specific.
  21. It will be at least Thursday, I read, before the Notts vacine debacle is sorted. 'Lumpy' supply problems are blamed apparently. I also read in today's Times that almost half the people in high ethnic minority areas are refusing to be vaccinated because they are scared.
  22. I remember the Anglo American garage. I always fancied one of those big Yankee cars. One of my uncles had one in the 50's. An Oldsmobile 88 with lots of chrome and big tail fins. It did about 12mpg. He got fined for hoarding cans of petrol in his shed during the Suez crisis!
  23. I wouldn't think that the army are doing anything more than Amazon Prime do everyday. My Amazon orders are coming faster than my vaccination.
