  1. The equivalent at Mellish was woodwork and metalwork on a 6 month about basis. We made incredibly useless things like a single shelf bracket, an ashtray or a wooden pencil box. There was mouthwatering kit like lathes and milling machines in the metalwork shop, which we were never allowed to use. Most of the time was spent around the forge, bashing metal on an anvil. When I worked in industry I had access to the engineering shop, but I had to set up my own workshop when I retired. As my son was contemplating a career in engineering we got all the kit and we could weld, turn, drill, saw and fabr
  2. I put it into ‘demonstration’ mode and my wife was highly impressed until she saw me walking across the room!
  3. It’s got all the sounds Ben. I can do the Mighty Wurlitzer. I just need to make a hole in the floor so that I can rise up to tumultuous applause.
  4. The electronic keyboard’s just arrived and has been set in what we will now call the ‘music room’. It looks like the control panel of the Starship Enterprise. I’ve flown aeroplanes with fewer knobs and dials. I can confirm that I can play God Save the Queen and Three Blind Mice. I’ve just got to work out the left hand bits with only three fingers. Don’t book me yet!
  5. I’m a scruffy bugger compared to you Ben!
  6. Get a sword stick Ben for when you’re walking the streets of Bulwell late at night!
  7. It will be on the floor somewhere Ben. You can be sure of that!
  8. My wife had to go for a tetanus injection last week as was clawed deeply whilst trying to administer a worming tablet to a cat. Two more are required to complete the course. They've all been treated externally now!
  9. I can sympathise with you. We looked after my mother who had dementia for ten years. It was a difficult time. We had to put her in a home eventually as she was getting just too much for us to manage. She only lasted a couple of weeks after that. It was ten of the most difficult years of our life. I wouldn't wish it on anybody.
  10. @nonnaBWhen we used to visit a factory near Florence the chap who looked after us, Simone Bargellini, was the son of the Mayor of Florence. He knew absolutely everyone in the town especially the restraunteurs who usually turned out to be his cousins! It was always a pleasure to spend an evening with him.
  11. Heaven is where... The police are British The cooks are Italian The lovers are French The mechanics are German And it's all organized by the Swiss Hell is where... The cooks are British The mechanics are French The lovers are Swiss The police are German And it's all organized by the Italians
  12. From a lengthy experience of dealing with them in business, when did the Italians ever do anything in an organised manner?
  13. Chris Wittey on R4 this am says avoid people like the plague even outdoors. There are lots of temporary mortuaries opening now as the hospital ones are full. Have a nice day!
  14. There is a centre opening in Newark this week although the location has not been disclosed. I don't know how they propose to get the over 80's there though. An over 80's neighbour has had a jab at the QMC but his much younger wife, an ex nurse, has enrolled there to give vaccinations.
  15. It'll be by zoom BK, just as soon as I've mastered the keyboard. Save you trying to stuff a double bass into the car.
  16. I don't recollect going to L'Angolo in the evening, only for lunch and I don't remember any music at that time.
  17. I knew a few lady pilots. They were as least as good as the blokes and often better. They were always very precise and tended not to do silly things like some of the men did.
  18. I had you lined up as a bassist BK.
  19. It's not for a few days but I happily accept your good wishes. As soon as the weather's warmer I'll be working outside again but I need a project for the next few weeks. It was going to be a model railway - we shall see!
  20. You won't be taking the Mickey when I'm on Britain's Got Tallent. I'm more into modern jazz where I can extemporise. I am seeking a drummer though. It's a Casio WK 7600 which has all the bells and whistles.
  21. Candelabras we have in stock. I'm not going to rise to the bait about Lurex!
  22. Just doing weddings, funerals and bar mitzvah’s initially before I get onto the more serious stuff but I’ll keep you posted.
  23. I've just done a silly thing. For my amusement during lockdown I've ordered an electronic keyboard. I was looking at baby grands but it would be difficult getting one into the car when I start to play at gigs. I can't play the piano yet but I reckon a couple of weeks practice should be OK. I always buy myself a birthday present!
