  1. Certainly Gray and Bull next to Santander Bank. Didn’t that used to be a fur coat shop? Swears and Wells perhaps.
  2. I trust there is no preferential treatment.
  3. The City Council only seem to be interested in holding tacky events in the once magnificent market square.
  4. I would fit a 13A socket if checks out as live with a mains tester. Obviously isolate the circuit before working on it. If it’s not live, which is doubtful, then, as you suggest, fit terminal blocks and a cover plate. I don’t know what the regulations are these days with diy electrical work but I believe such simple jobs don’t require someone with a certificate of competency but if you go online it will put doubt in your mind! There will be earth leakage circuit breakers to protect the system so you should be perfectly safe. I’ve seen many instances of incompetent work carried out by regi
  5. Ours have 8 and 9 speeds respectively. I wouldn't want to change those on a gear stick!
  6. Never, ever had a problem with an auto box in 40+ plus years of driving them. I have had a couple of clutch failures on manuals. I always change our cars well before they become unreliable as living where we we do, with no bus or easily accessible train service, a reliable car is essential.
  7. I can’t see the reason for driving a manual car in the 21st. century other than a saving on cost. We’ve both driven autos for very many years and modern cars with flappy paddles give all the advantages of a manual box without the need for a clutch.
  8. Just driven to Newark and the Kelham Rd. is closed for floods again. The Trent looks fearsome from the Old Great North Rd. and a few caravans are afloat near to the sugar beet factory. Trucks of beet are queuing to offload so the farmers must somehow be getting it off the fields.
  9. I can see where you're coming from but in my case I want facts and answers 'on tap' and having the equivalent of the Encyclopaedia Brittanica in my pocket is a wonderful thing.
  10. ......and you do all your calculations on an abacus. Time has passed you by!
  11. I agree. I do like ‘bleak’. I like to pop over the border to the Lincolnshire fens in the winter and admire the wide open fields and the big skies. Big romantic at heart!
  12. You have opted to be a bloody soft southerner!
  13. I think you would prefer the southern highlands. Some call it the South Downs.
  14. There's nothing worse than those people who pre sugar and milk your tea. Milk and sugar contents are very subjective.
  15. You would think that the developers of pharmacy products for animals would have devised a way to make them palatable. Surely they must know about the problems involved in getting the creatures to swallow them by now.
  16. It’s strange that the French can’t make tea when they claim the gastronomic high ground in other areas (although I much prefer Italian cooking). Tea making in England was a ritual but the invention of the tea bag did away with much of that and as long as the tea has time to brew in pot or mug I defy anyone to tell the difference. I, until recently, had a morning coffee routine where I ground the beans and poured slightly less than boiling water over the grounds in a caffetiere. Since I spotted Taylor’s of Harrogate coffee bags in assorted strengths the ritual has gone out of the window and the
  17. We have a collection of novelty teapots but they sit on the dresser. We're common bag to cup people here. Sorry to let the side down.
  18. No fun in an ordinary car. This should be an adventure with daily updates and pictures!
  19. Just press the button once Barrie.
  20. Thanks Katy, the mind boggled at the thought!
  21. 11 shuttles Barry, they should get you to Scotland !
  22. From Lewes to Loch Watten. That’s about 725 miles. That will take some planning as motorways don’t allow golf carts. Let’s hope there’s lots of charging points up in the Highlands. You could write a book about it when you return, if you ever do!
