Just noticed this posting. Someone mentioned the Trattoria Conti and referred to it as being on a first-floor location in Wheeler Gate - which indeed it was in its latter years. Originally though, it opened on St. James' Street in 1967, where it was in the basement of the former Victorian music hall The Malt Cross. It was, I believe, re-named La Contessa in the early 70s. It was a lovely restaurant with excellent food and staff.

Yup, Phil! I never heard Harry's band referred to as anything other than a trio. Don't know why. With Jyll ball it was actually a quintet, I guess! I used to go regularly to the White Post Inn restaurant at Farnsfield and the Green Dragon to hear them. Made many good recordings too, which sadly got mislaid with the passage of time. - Pete

Hello Malcolm, I have just taken a look at your interesting website but I cannot recall having had the pleasure of meeting you. That's not to say our paths haven't crossed somewhere back in the annals time, of course but I left Nottinghamshire around the early 1970s and moved to Blandford Forum in Dorset, where my wife and I lived until November 2009.
