  1. I had never tasted haggis until a customer who was a Dr invited us to his home for dinner one evening. Don't know if you were ever in the restaurant at the same time as him but he was a character and a half. The first time he came in to book we thought he was a tramp. When he came in to dine he recognised a lot of people and bought them all a bottle of champagne. Ohoh we thought hes never going to pay the bill. How wrong can you be. He turned out to be a lovely person and an anesthetist at the Queens. He always appeared drunk but wasnt until one evening he brought a lady friend with him. He go
  2. The only type I use called cuore di bue the beef tomato type. Must be a bit soft as they have a lovely flavour. I only use dried porcini for risotto. As a snack or meal I prefer fresh.
  3. Jonab not so sure about the tomato, must try it.
  4. I should have taken a photo of tractors when it was the hazlenut fair. The square was full of men and their tractors. Wonder how many were sold. My neighbours son has 2/3 of different sizes. Hes very proud of them and they are spotlessly clean
  5. Tractors are a niusance when they hold the traffic up AND destroy the road surface. Really the only time we have problems and theyre not really problems is when its vendemmia time. They come in all sorts of sizes laden with grapes. The trouble shooters are the ones that instead of wheels they have tank whatever you call them. Theyve ruined part of our road which apparently is going to be sorted in the near future. Oh and during the summer when its really hot the tractors keep us awake while they cut, spread and bale the hay or plough the fields. Sorry I'm not grumbling , I love livi
  6. Porcini are delicious with a splash of pernod or fennel seeds.
  7. You are always assured of a good meal there Lizzie. Glad you enjoyed it.
  8. I object having to buy a plastic bag to carry what I've bought. Even more annoying is the fact that I'm advertising for them. Now I always have a couple of those cloth folding bags in my handbag. They dont take any space and are always useful. Our supermarkets have recently started to charge for bags for veg and fruit but the local one has 2 different sized paper bags. More convenient, I put kitchen waste in them before I put rubbish into the compost bin.
  9. Buon appetito Lizzie say hello to Giorgio and Luigi.
  10. We live in the middle of fields ( see photo) and when the grass is cut opposite we have to keep our doors closed. Yesterday was walking from one room to another and saw something moving. Not a mouse as I thought but a very large lizard. Wasn't quick enough to get a glass to pick it up. It went behind the fire place so now dont know where it is. Probably it cant find its way out.
  11. Kath it is lovely really. Its a bit hilly with some lovely views. Mountains in the background. Very quiet when the dogs aren't barking.
  12. just browsing google earth. this is a birds eye view of my area. We are where the pools are the one nearer the road is us. its an old view though as things have changed quite a bit. All strips are vineyards, the others are corn / grain or grazing land and hazelnuts.
  13. Not my day today . Am at my daughters while the decorators are finishing off. Can't get on Internet with iPad or laptop but I can with my phone. I have vodafone at home and have connected but can't get anything at my daughters. She has Telecom Italia so that may be down like vodafone the other day. The whole of Piemonte was down with vodafone. Not really important but I'm bored. Oh to have my house back again They should finish today Just found out why. The Ethernet cable was loose. Should have checked before
  14. Day not started well. Put CH on last night for a couple of hours to take the chill away. Reset the timer. This morning it went into over heating but the radiators were cold. We have a pellet stove and I think that as it also went into too high a temperature last night ( because the immersion heater was also on) that was the cause this morning. Now waiting for the stove to cool down and see what the problem is. Its already been serviced so its probably something stupid. Also come to put my slippers on as I got out of bed and found only one. ( could it be the sock stealer) The dogs are goo
  15. Seen at the vets the other day. says it all really
  16. https://postimg.cc/gallery/zhuph6b6/ Not a particularly exciting shed but a bit different
  17. Just a few derelict buildings along our road. they are all one property. The one without the roof I have seen inside but theres no entry in at the moment.
  18. Our shed was originally to hold all the workings of the pool but instead it now houses 2 sets of tyres various tools inside the 2 cupboards, a huge boiling pot ( for preserves) the sun beds and the Dolphin. My husband doesn't possess many tools only the necessary. But give him a knife and a frying pan and we get them tucked in everywhere. I think we have every contraption and utensil under the sun in MY kitchen.
  19. It looks a posh shed Loppy ....er didn't really want to look inside.
  20. We took our lounge carpet up a long while ago, the only carpet we had. It gets very humid in the summer and as it is the only thing that absorbs in makes sense. It's a lot more hygienic and cleaner. But when accidents happen it still has to be cleaned up and disinfected.
  21. Before I was married and still lived at home I had 2 chihuahuas and mum and dad had 2 poodles. The toy poodle was always lifting socks from my dad and my brother. Suki was always having false pregnancies and would take the socks and " nurse"them. The shout was always " who's seen my socks" and the answer was always " look in Suki's bed"
  22. I've always wondered that Loppy.
  23. The tiler came round this afternoon and after a heated argument he agreed to reduce the bill quite considerably. Actually the tiles do look really nice. This time I wanted something more modern and we chose wood effect. Sorry if I gave the impression that builders etc were all. alike they aren't. The decorator s usually carry their colour charts but we wanted to get the paint from a particular shop, one we've dealt with for years. He has everything he needs including cloths for cleaning up. He also brings his wife to clean afterwards and put everything back in order. Thats why we always
  24. Afforgorrit, love the photo. Theres no end of derelict cascine around here. The old folk have gone and their descendants dont want to know. They all go to the bigger cities. We are a group of 6 cascine joined in an "L" shape , theres only 3 occupied. Theres a more modern house further down the road and next to that a bungalow. Opposite theres a very uptodate house that belongs to the son of our next door neighbours. A very old hamlet dating to about 1880. Our lounge has a date on the ceiling of 1886 but that part was added before that date.
