  1. I can only recall one teacher from Blue Bell Hill, not by name but because he argued black and blue my surname wasn't spelled the way it was! I remember Graham Shaw passing the eleven plus and going on to Grammer School.
  2. A lot of those old houses were struturally sound and would have lasted another couple of hundred more years. A better alternative might have been to knock two into one and refurbish the interiors. That way at least 50% of the community could have been kept together. Probably would have worked out cheaper for the council too.
  3. A gallah is a parrot Ian, its reckoned to be stupid because it sits and eats off the road and generally gets run down by cars. "Gallah" is also used to denote anyone thats a fools as in,"Bloody Gallah"!
  4. Been out most of the day helping Her Who Must Be Obeyed!
  5. All the brewery had to do was to phone the US breweries and ask them how they went on in California several years ago. They never built shelters outside bars for the smoking brigade.. LOL And business didn't suffer either, if a bloke wants a pint, he'll go for one whether he's a smoker or not..
  6. And people always wondered why I'd never do that for them at weekends.. LOL
  7. I had a Greater Road Runner in my yard a few months back, haven't seen it around since then, but someone I know told me he had a family of them around his place. We have many Northern Flickers, (type of woodpeckers) and this time of year at night we here the Whipperwills. Then this time of year we see the Humming birds who winter in Mexico and the warmer places. God they are so tiny!!
  8. Check out the birds in my neck of the woods then Beefy! Google Missouri Conservation, they have a list and piccies of them all. Most common around here is the Northern Cardinal, so named because it's bright red!
  9. Gee where's my manners?? Welcome Ron, I'm a bit right of you in south central Missouri! Used to live in California a wee bit north of you in the Sierras overlooking Sacramento, but Californias politics made us leave.
  10. Good God Mick, where on earth did you get them shorts??? Thems fancier than any I wear on the old tractor!
  11. I've seen some odd street and place names in my time Mick, I don't doubt it..
  12. It's pretty bad in Texas and Oklahoma at the moment. Places down there are getting 6!! yes six inches of rain an hour!! Many parts of Houston have flooding and parts off towns in northern Texas are under water!
  13. Yep, short of it around here too, there seems to be an upper level low stalled out over Texas, they are getting flooded out while the rest of us are dry!
  14. I usually bake my own bread Anne! I use the bread maker to take the hard work out of it, then "prove" the dough in bread pans and then throw them in the oven.
  15. I think the mid 60's was when the last of them was around. We still had them when I was at Clifton Colliery, as they made a fair few of the nightshift late arriving.
  16. Never gave this much thought until this morning, a bolt out of the blue! Ever wondered where that came from?? Yesterday, a bloke in Texas was killed by lightning, nowt unusual about it except there wasn't a cloud in the sky!!!! No it was clear blue sky! Several miles away it was different, a raging thunderstorm, the origin point of the lightning that hit a tree and hit him in the head killing him instantly! Food for thought that!
  17. Yep we are spread wide and far from our native city! Hi Tank, enjoy you stay with us!
  18. Welcome Sham, I don't think I'd recognise Nottingham anymore.
  19. My Dad worked for Bartons Transport for a number of years.
  20. Thats mean!! I take it you mean the Pork Farms that was built on top of my old pit?
  21. Ever tried a teaspoon of vinegar?? Supposed to be a cure all for acid indigestion! Never tried it myself as I rarely get it.
  22. And how they were dealt with. There was a diesel fitter at BG's Marblaegis Mine that was pretty well disliked. He was on night shifts during his last week with us and had one shift to go before he left, so one of the other fitters welded up his tool cupboard door on all four faces! I'd loved to have seen his face when he got to the workshop that night!
  23. Ayup Anne, been wondering where you'd been to, hope your well up there in the icelands of Canada! Not heard from you in ages!
