Hi I have never stopped in the North but I have driven up there, the north tends to be a bit cooler but still is hot, the landscape is a lot greener than the south. Hey Beekay it may be a long time since you Have seen Boolwell Bogs but now the water is clear and the surrounding area has all been tidied up. It is a great time walking along the side o the Leen and watching the amount of wild life on ,in and around it. There is plenty of benches about to sit and chill out.

I have to go for blood tests on a regular basis and every time it is the same "we are having problems finding a vein". A few weeks ago Nora the Needle had 4 attempts before she found blood and she told me the normal thing drink loads of water before you arrive. I could not wait to get out and find the nearest toilet before I had an unfortunate accident.

If she does not know how to make a wax doll and use it consult my other half, she is an expert, why do you think I keep getting stabbing pains in my back.

Sorry to hear your news Melissa but as others have said it may be your chance to look around and try some thing different. I have had a great day we went into Hucknall and sat inside a nice warm Greggs with a bacon baguette and coffee and watched the world go by. Then home and the chainsaw out and took the other cherry tree down, no more sweeping leaves up in the front garden again, cleared every thing up. Then into the house when I finally sat down suffering I thought that was a stupid idea, when will I ever learn.

I have gone one better than that Beekay I have gone back to the fifties, newspaper squares, the problem with that is that I donot buy newspapers. So now I use my free bus and tram pass and I travel on them until I find newspapers that people have left ,when I have enough its home and cut them up. I have many other money saving tips if you need them.

Hi spiderwoman sorry Stavertongirl my wife and I always wear masks when in crowded places. As she has COPD she was always having chest infections it reached the stage where our GP gave her antibiotics to keep in the house and to take them at the first sign of an infection, as he stated she didnt have enough meat on her to fight a full blown infection. Then came along covid and masks were worn all the time leaving home ,during the worst periods of covid she never had an infection. Since that time with our current usage of masks she has only had 1 infection. So we believe in the wearing of masks

Shorts in this weather? It takes me all my time to move away from my fire, if I do go out I am wrapped up well and I also wear a mask to help keep the cold away from my face. The cold never use to bother me , it must be another thing you have to put up with due to age.

I am not sure where to post this , but it is certainly not my day. I have just insured my car , after searching for a better deal I paid £540, thats with maximum no claims and up to 2000 miles per year. I have booked a weeks holiday in Tenerife for the end of this month , so then to the insurance again I used Mr Google, I didnt like the prices so I went to local broker who was the cheapest. My error I should have wrote it was the winter of 62-63, many thanks for pointing out my error, but my body does feel at the present time that I am in my 90s. I can remember that winter I had started as an apprentice electrician at the NCB one week at Hucknall Top Pit. This entailed a bike ride from Bestwood Estate past Bulwell common then Bulwell Hall Park and into the pit yard, the next week all the way to Arnold and Carlton College . The main memories of that time was the freezing cold falling off my bike, pushing it through the snow and my clothes being cold and damp all day. Like everyone else there was no alternative , no work no pay as a 15 year old that would have been disastrous.
