  1. Great comment Annswabey some people forget the millions who died, injured and had their lives ruined by war. Old men tend to start wars and send in the young to die. The economic cost as well , just think how all that money spent on fighting the wars could have benefited education, health and living standards. That's not to say we shouldn't maintain a credible defence force.
  2. Thanks this is the best about Nottstalgia, you have all reminded me about films that I like but forgot about, now to find the time to look for them and hide away and watch them.
  3. If by political correctness you mean the sheep that follow the doctrine dictated by a few and are unable or unwilling to think and decide for themselves then I agree with you. Where I disagree is that it is not only Marxist but it is used by the extremes of all sides. They are full of themselves and very vocal in a mob, but try and discuss it with them on a one to one basis, they wont, they haven't been told what to say or think.
  4. For me the TV dose not need an aerial or digital connection , all I need is a wifi signal and I can watch what I want and when I want and see it on a 51 inch screen, a great picture and no eye strain. The wife is also happy with no uncalled for comments while she is watching her TV, peace and harmony at last.
  5. No IAN I brought a Samsung smart tv ,without the wifes approval, with all the apps on it, you can watch youtube, Netflix, the internet and a host of other sites, I have yet to watch normal tv on it. I t is as you say a lot easier on your eyes than using a laptop. I have been deported to another room , so it mean I am unable to sit with my wife to watch quiz programmes , Coronation street and Emmerdale etc, the sufferings I go through.
  6. When I was younger I use to have an allotment , the wife could never understand why I use to spend so much time up there and come back with a smile on my face. Spending time chatting with the older gardeners was an education and a pleasure.
  7. Catfan has your wife been telling mine what to say when I ask.
  8. Up the junction with Dennis Waterman, with real proper cars.
  9. If anyone wants to see these old films go on the dreaded youtube , there are hundreds of complete old films on there for you to watch, me I am sad enough to go onto it regularly and watch them.
  10. Me as well IAN ,would really make me smile, trouble is I wouldn't be able to get this body of mine on it.
  11. If Nelson Mandela was such an evil person ,could someone explain to me why in the years before his release and after was most of the world leaders and celebrities falling over themselves to be associated with and photographed with him PS I prefer to read about Nottstalgia and look at photos of Nottingham.
  12. Jill, I understand where you are coming from on foodies and I have to agree with you , but didn't you use to have a passion years ago for visiting the Pythagoras Tearoom on Gregory Boulevard.

Painted robins, well follow this link to see what school children are doing for Nottingham. Me I personally think their involvement is great as it will make them appreciate the city and respect their work and others. https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/local-news/dozens-colourful-book-shaped-benches-1807499

Here is an aerial view of part of the area of Radford in 1937 , note the lack of cars.
  15. There is a article in Nottingham post regarding these pigeons in Nottingham. Just follow the link. https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/nottingham-news/you-need-know-hoodwinked-including-1758158
  16. I always had to make and repair bikes from odds and ends, if I didn't it would mean walking. I spent hours seeking parts to keeping mobile , at one stage a friend always had the part I wanted and in fair condition too. I heard rumours about his source so being the coward I was I never went to him again. Amazing what memories nottstalgia brings back to you.
  17. I remember the spirit engines on an aircraft I purchased , I only used it once , the plane never landed correctly ( it crashed), I believe they were called Glowplug engines. You had to attach a battery to the glowplug then spin the propeller to start it, then when it was running it had enough heat in the engine to ignite the spirit.
  18. Thanks for the continued DJ360 , again this has stirred memories of Bestwood Estate ,which I didn't know I had. It appears that this method of kite manufacture and flight was the standard practice of the inmates of Bestwood, what great times we had from so little. It again proves that you don't need money to enjoy yourselves, all it needs is an imaginative mind and we all had imaginative minds during that era.
  19. Looking at the Mail on line I think one of our members has had a result this year, I think it is one of our members as I recognised his photo, this link takes you to the item. https://news.sky.com/story/top-ten-highest-earning-celebrities-of-the-year-11439019
  20. I never heard that expression but the nearest one I can think of is a "ten bob millionaire" meaning they only have ten bob in their pocket but act like a millionaire. So is a ten dollar yank an American saying meaning the same.
  21. DJ360 I don't want to get into an argument over this topic, I understand where you are coming from and after reading most of your posts I have great respect for your views. I wouldn't personally use the word besieged but they are concerned enough to be wary if they have to venture out of an evening, talking to many friends in Hucknall they feel the same . Not all children are the same , most are great. But when you see and hear of the antics which happen on a regular basis you do become worried, and when experts keep finding excuses for their behaviour you lose some of the respect you
  22. I will give you a like as you didn't ignore it and went to the doctors and dealt with it and came out the other side and like you the sense of relief after the result you feel so good.
  23. I may be cynical but why do the "experts" keep finding new syndromes, is it because they then become experts and famous and can charge more for their services.
  24. Well isn't this getting old bad for you ,it seems nottstagia posters are getting their money back from the NHS lately I went to my GP a month ago , after some in depth questioning and examination she said you have probably have stomach cancer so she arranged an emergency appointment for a camera down to my stomach. After 2 weeks I had this, good news I only have a problem with my stomach lining. But with having lost 2 friends with the same problem, both only lasted about 3months, that 2 weeks was the longest worrying time of my life . In this time I transferred all my money and investments to
  25. Loppylugs I read about the boys wearing skirts to school, they asked as the weather is so hot could they wear shorts. They were given short shrift answer of no, they had to wear school uniform or they would be sent home, they then thought about it and decided to borrow skirts from the girls and wear them the next day , they complied with the school uniform standard. I have to admire them as they had a grievance and thought about it and out foxed the school within the rules. You cannot stop free thinking.
