  10. You've cracked it Mary, I'm no good at this, I'll use some Brighton pictures instead. (I reckon the photograph was taken from upstairs of what was Boots chemist, circa 1960s).
  11. It was too easy for you all. As kids we used to climb across that arch, one side to the other. I can actually remember that rest garden being landscaped and we used to play in the church before it was demolished. The other side of the rest garden was derelict for years. Used to play war games and cowboys in the overgrown graveyard. To this day I still have a large scar on my right leg where I caught it on a broken slate headstone. It never occurred to us kids that there were coffins underneath us. (Between Ronald St. and Baldwin St.)
  12. Yep !!! Done Cottenham and Aylestone in me time. Before I had a regular route, could go anywhere. Took over North Lincs from Dronfield depot, so used to do Grimsby, Scunthorpe East Coast etc. I once delivered to Southwell and was looking for my next village drop. Stopped to ask directions from a local on a tractor. It turned out I thought I recognised his face. It transpired he was our next door neighbour from Denton Street 20 odd years earlier ! If your out there, Barry Bradley, cheers mate! (That were40 + years ago).
  13. So where was that village then Margie? Chances are I bet I went there. Did loads of villages from Peterborough down to St.Neots. I'd be here all day listing them all. Used to do a hairdresser at Gedney Drove End. One road in and same one out. One of our driver's had that drop with a small parcel. He just put a stamp on it and posted it, rather than deliver it. Edit. I did that job until late 77', so we could have crossed paths
  14. I'm sure we went to the same shops Ben. They were mostly grocery shops, pharmacies, hairdressers etc. My area over the week ranged from Grantham down to St Neots. Fridays was the other side of the A1, Oundle, Market Harborough, Corby and Kettering, with lots of little villages and schools fitted in. I'll bet at some time or other, I've actually served you and delivered your goods.
  15. Morning Margie, talking of Chatteris , that used to be my delivery area every Thursday, (when I drove for SPD). Always started at Whittlesey, March, Chatteris, Haddenham, Ely and sometimes on to Long Sutton and Sutton Bridge. That were back in the 70s. Happy days.
  16. You look much deeper eh Margie. Deeper than a sinkhole ?
  17. It's probably a silly question, but what are the chances of partners re-infecting each other? Thinking of you Carni, take care.
  18. On Boden Street, on the corner of Clifford Street, I think that used be the bakers. Above the entrance door was a big Hovis sign. There used to be a gate at the side of the shop where you could reverse a small delivery van in. That's where we used go in to meet our school chum. Used to get plenty of stale cakes.
  19. Coming down Boden Street on same side as the bank, about four shops down there used to be a lovely bakers, who baked their own bread at the back. I went to school with a young lad who lived there. I think the shop was Hurds. We spent many happy hours in the yard at the back where the ovens were. The aroma was intoxicating, with fresh bread etc. They also used to make cakes and a firm favourite with locals was "Nelson squares", which were brilliant hot or cold, you could put custard on them for a pudding or pack them up for your 'snap'. That's where we used to get our Salmon paste or potted mea
