I found an aluminium dipole ariel in my garage.

I must have bought it in the 80s in my radio listening years

Its approx 50" (127 cm) and is not adjustable.

Its not TV, what is it general radio?

Anyone know?

The length depends on the resonant frequency it was used for Mick 492 divided by the frequency in Mhz is the length in feet. (that's for a half wave dipole!)

A half wave horizontally polarized dipole, what's the length of each leg to the centre Mick, looks like an FM broadcast receiving antenna to me.
