The ad cannot be as old as I thought - WD-40 didn't go on sale (in California) until 1958, and probably somewhat later in the U.K. so at its oldest, the ad could be early 60's. I suppose that was around the era of the "Carry On" films, so that could have been the influence - or the writer had spent too much time at Skeggy reading postcards!
