wheatstraw 3
Does anyone remember the smart middleaged chap in a camel coat who used to give away free tickets to the Ad Lib. This was in the 1970's.

FLY2 10,109
George.
Robbie 39
I can't remember his name but I do remember getting free tickets at that time, he was always along the Poultry, mostly outside the Flying Horse. He also wore a dinner type jacket and dickie bow, always a smile on his face but he never said much.
FLY2 10,109
If it was George, he used to be on the door of the Dungeon in the mid sixties. Then he progressed to the Boat, Union and Brit clubs in the late sixties, early seventies.
hippo girl 1,995
Think mick is right Basil ...I thought it was Albert.....he was always in the flying horse early 70s , giving out tickets for AD LIB and the Pigalle in Hockley......
Robbie 39
I think it could have been Basil. I don't remember him being on the door at the Dungeon or Union. I didn't use the Brit much and never used the Boat.

wheatstraw 3
Yes, Basil. How could I forget. Plus, a great photo. He was always outside The Flying Horse, The Dog & Bear and The Fountain. Talking of the Trent Rowing Clubs. Sunday night at The Union was the place to be. The Brit was un mentionable. I remember seeing Genesis(with Peter Gabriel) and Black Sabbath at The Boat. Didn't the stage have a hole in its floor?
TBI 2,351
Yes wheatstraw, unless there was a great band on at the Boat, Sunday night was Union night.
Michael Booth 7,364
Whenever I wasn't working abroad I'd go to the Boat on a Sunday night and watch the Rock & Roll groups. It was always a great atmosphere in there.
