mick2me 3,033
Discussed on another site, some disagreement on its location?
TBI 2,351
Arkwright St, turning on to London Rd. Trent Bridge in the distance.
denshaw 2,877
Trolley bus is turning into Truman st, Bathley st on the right.
mick2me 3,033
Is that 'The Globe' in the distance? What is the church type building. What are the shop business?
TBI 2,351
Yes, you can just see the tops of the Globe, just behind the baptist Chapel. Gotts shoe repairers on the left. The the first floor bay visible on the right edge is the post office at the end of Lamcote St ( not Bathley St ) From the Littlewoods £300k pay-out on the bus, it must be about 1960. Merthyr Imp 729
Only noticed on looking at the picture a second time that the traffic jam seems to be due to the trolley poles having come off the wires.
Cliff Ton 10,488
To confirm what others have said - this is the location in the early 60s, although the Baptist Chapel has gone by then. This is an earlier version when the road layout was different but the Chapel was still there.
Michael Booth 7,364
I thought it was the place as stated because there've been previous comments regarding the Chapel on another Topic.
DJ360 6,734
What is that wagon just to the right of the rear of the bus? At first I thought Atkinson, but it doesn't have the big 'A' in a circle. It is definitely British Road Services (BRS) Col
FLY2 10,109
A difficult one that. The dark round thing above the rolled up radiator cover is intriguing. At first, I thought it was a large poppy, but I don't think they had such things in those days. I don't think it's a manufacturers badge, so that supposedly rules out Bristol or Maudsley. The top of the radiator is interesting, could it be an Albion ? Although I can't make out the rising sun. It's a pity we can't decipher the reg.
FLY2 10,109
After scrutinising various BRS websites and perusing scores of pics, I reckon it possibly could be a Thorneycroft.
