All going wrong

Ben, Do they still have programmes at the game where they printed the names and positions of the players in the middle two pages? If so they're gonna need bigger programmes to print those names and those of the five substitutes allowed for each team, plus the ref, the two linesmen and the one? that sits and watches the VAR.

Is history repeating itself ?

Yes Cliff Ton, same old, same old. Packing the playing staff with defenders and midfielders when the most obvious need is for a goal poacher that can regularly convert half chances into goals. Otherwise it could well turn out to be another season of struggle. I don't understand why the management can't see that this is their major weakness.

Just heard the Forest have sold Brennan Johnson to Spurs for 47.5 million pounds. What the hell is going on???

Selling a player with goal scoring potential and using that cash to get yet more midfielders. Stupid, crazy, dumb, mad, brainless, thick, dopey, I could go on but I am sure you understand my feelings.

A question to the club management. Where are the goals going to come from?

County - A 3-1 win at Meadow Lane over Accrington Stanley. Who I remember from the 60s were perpetually seeking re-election to division 4. Just shy of 10,000 fans were on hand to see them take the lead in the 7th minute with a goal by Dan Crowley, Accrington equalised 20 minutes later and then "that man" Macauley Langstaff bagged a brace which puts them at the top of the table. Away at Milton Keynes Dons on Saturday

Mansfield - Becoming somewhat of a draw specialist this season with a dour 0-0 draw, their fourth this season, at Field mill against Bradford City. 8,500 fans were on hand to see the Stags maintain their unbeaten run in all competitions this season. Away at Accrington next weekend.

Forest - In somewhat of a shock the Reds came away from Stamford Bridge with a 0-1 victory with an Anthony Elanga goal, his first in 44 appearances, just after half time. Forest held on during 8 minutes of stoppage time at the end of the game for a very welcome, long awaited away win. Bit of a break coming up as they do not play again until Monday 18th Sept when they are at home to Burnley.

County - Give up the top spot to Gillingham but nevertheless a very creditable, come from behind, away draw against fourth placed Milton Keynes Dons. (doesn't even sound like a football team) Unusual in that only one yellow card was shown and that in the 90th Minute. County captain Kyle Cameron scored for the Magpies and either side could have won it in the last few minutes. "That man" had a shot well saved for County and Harrison blazed one over for MKD. Home against Forest Green Rovers on Saturday

Stags - A comprehensive 0-3 away win at mid table Accrington Stanley in front of a disappointing crowd of just over 3,000. it moves them into third place, one behind Notts. Early days yet but it is good to see both local tier 4 clubs doing well. Stags are still unbeaten this season. Aaron Lewis scored a "Bobby Charlton special with a 40 yard volley in the 75th minute to put the result beyond doubt. At home against 8th placed Barrow next weekend.

Forest - No games today in the EPL due to European Championship Qualifying games.

It really is time they stopped this farce as all premier league teams have enough class players for this not to affect them and no one club has that many Internationals being called up anyway. Just get on with the league games.

Forest away at table topping Manchester City next Saturday. This will be a real test of how far the Reds have come since last season.

Oz,

The Notts v Milton Keynes game was played in 31 degree heat so credit to both teams getting through that.

Notts were without Jodi Jones (international duty with Malta) and Didzy McGoldrick (groin niggle). I think they would probably have won if these two had been available but on the day a draw was fair.

Taking a point at MK Dons is an excellent result which the majority of teams in L2 won't manage this season. Notts are starting to look a real prospect. Promotion again this season is looking achievable but as we're only 7 games in I need to temper my enthusiasm a bit perhaps.

Notts go to Salford on Friday night and on current form they should avoid defeat. Their next home game is v Forest Green Rovers on Saturday 23rd Sept by which time Notts could be back on top of L2.

Mansfield turned on the style as they convincingly beat Accrington  3-0. It would be quite something if they can remain unbeaten prior to October 14th when they come to Meadow Lane. What a game that's going to be.

I fear Forest might regret selling Brennan Johnson. They are desperately short of a proven striker and Steve Cooper's strategy of defending well and trying to nick a goal on the break is looking highly questionable. Time will tell. Anything less than a win against bottom of the table Burnley on Monday 18th will be disappointing.

I think the next 4 or 5 games will tell us if Forest are going to settle as a mid table Premier Leauge team or if another relegation fight is round the corner.

Mess, that's a statement of the bleedin' obvious they needed a striker for all of last season and to start this year without one is sheer stupidity.

I see the County and Stags game is on t'telly imagine that. Should be a cracker.

County - Back on top after a 0-2 away win at 18th placed Salford City in front of a paltry 3,600 spectators in what appeared to be a spiteful game in which seven yellow cards were issued, two ending up as sendings off in the last minutes of time. A goal in each half saw the Magpies generally dominate play and left Salford without a win at home this season.

Salford are a big team that go in hard. Not unlike Sutton really. Bullying giants I've heard them called.

Notts were a much better footballing side last night and it showed. Didzy McGoldrick and Dan Cowley ran the show although Bostock and Baldwin were very good too.

I can still remember that awful game back in November 2015 when we lost 2-0 to Salford in the FA Cup when they were non league. That was a real low point for Notts and now look at us.

I see others say that Notts haven't played any top sides yet apart from MK Dons. Well we face Swindon, Gillingham, Mansfield and Wrexham soon so if we're still up there come the end of October we will have to be viewed as serious contenders for promotion.

Gillingham might go back to the top today and Mansfield should win too but we'll see.

Stags - A 1-1 draw away at lowly Colchester United. A point salvaged by a last minute goal by Davis Keillor Dunn after the U's scored in the 30th minute. Like Notts seven yellow cards were issued. Is the game generally getting dirtier or are the namby pambies in charge of the rule book? The draw sees them slip to 5th. Home against Barrow next Saturday.

Forest - Almost 30,000 fans saw Forest fail miserably with a 1-1 draw against equal bottom Burnley, the team they lost to in the Carabao Cup 20 days ago. After going behind just before half time a point was salvaged by a stunning goal from new signing Hudson-Odoi. Even though they have scored in their last 12 EPL games it is simply not good enough for Forest, an 8th placed team, to lose and draw at home against the bottom team in less than three weeks

I thought the Red men had dropped a clanger again but the goal was disallowed, pull your socks up Forest lets see a good game instead of nearly having a heart attack in the last few minutes.

I thought Forest started quite well but after Odoi's superb goal they started to look disjointed. Burnley we’re unlucky with the VAR ruling I thought the footage was inconclusive it which case the goal should have stood. Amazingly Forest are up to 8th. On that showing I think that's the highest they're going to get this season.

Burnley look so much better than their position in the table. I think they will survive and could well be above Forest at the end of the season.

Mess, I saw Hudson-Odoi's goal on our TV news coverage last night, what a screamer, looks like it just brushed the post on the way in. It saved them from another embarrassing loss.

I think they still need more strike power up front. If they can't beat lowly teams like Burnley at home then, like you I think 8th place is higher than can be expected at the seasons end.

County -  In what must have been a cracker of a game at Meadow Lane in front of 10,648 fans ( anyone on here go?) County had four different goal scorers including "that man". After taking a 2-0 lead into half time Forest Green hit back 12 minutes after the restart with two quick goals to tie the game up at 2-2. The Magpies scored twice in three minutes and looked to have the game comfortably under control until a 79th minute penalty for Forest Green which completed a hat trick for Troy Deeney made the last ten minutes a bit of a scramble with two players from each team being shown a yellow card making eight in all for the game. Deeney almost got a fourth goal and a point for Forest Green when his added time header hit the crossbar. The 4-3 win keeps them at the top of the table, 2 points ahead of Gillingham and 3 above the Stags. Away at lowly Colchester next Saturday.

Stags - Mansfield Town remain the only team in the EFL to be unbeaten in all competitions this season with a rather dour game of only a few chances with a 1-0 win against Barrow. The 6,700 fans did not have much to cheer about, the only goal did not come until the 72nd minute. A straight red card for Barrow's Tiensia 12 minutes after the goal did not help their chances of a fightback. At home to The Posh on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup. Then away at second placed Gillingham next Saturday.

Forest - Listened to this one on t'steam radio and I have to say I don't think Forest would have scored if they had played until Christmas. The team is obviously lacking penetration and a goal poacher and only really troubled the City 'keeper once. Two early first half goals saw City in total command and Forest were almost ineffectual.  City played the second half one man down after Rodri got a straight red card and still Forest could not pull one back. Wake up Cooper and the management you need a proven striker otherwise the slide down the table will continue. Home against Brentford next Sunday afternoon.

Stags - A disappointing crowd of just under 4,400 saw the Stags progress to round 4 of the Carabao Cup by beating League One, The Posh 3-1 on penalties last night at Field Mill. Stags went 1-0 up with a penalty after only five minutes. Peterborough equalised in the 30th minute and took the lead just after half time with the second of Clarke-Harris's brace. It was not until time on in the second half that Mansfield managed to equalise with a penalty and take the game into a penalty shoot out. All Stags goals came from penalties, how often do you see that? Stags remain the only team in the EFL unbeaten in any competition this season.

Stags miss out on tie with one of the big clubs having drawn 4th placed Division One club Port Vale at home in the 4th round of the Carabao Cup to be played either 31st October or 1st November. Must be in with a chance of progressing further.

County - In a to and fro game thriller with 9 goals and even with losing away at Colchester 5-4 they still stay top of the league. In a game with 7 yellow and one red card "that man" Macauley Langstaff scored a brace, the last in time on in the second half. Arthur Read previously having scored a brace for Colchester. A paltry crowd of just under 4,400 was on hand to see this goal fest. Home against third placed Swindon on Tuesday night.

Stags - A 1-1 draw away at Gillingham maintains their unbeaten in any competition start to the season sees them slip into fifth place. They went behind to a goal in the second minute but equalised in the 36th minute with a controversial goal by Davis Keillor-Dunn. The ref was in the process of booking a Gillingham player foul and allowed the Stags to take a quick free kick from which they scored. The Stags had two late chances to claim the win, one blazed over the crossbar and the second brilliantly saved by the Gillingham 'keeper. Home against "Hollywood FC" Wrexham on Tuesday evening.

Forest - 13 minutes of additional time in the second half and it ended 1-1 after Forest's Niakhate was sent off in the 65th minute for a second bookable offence. The second Red sent off this season. An uninspiring first half saw the scores 0-0 at half time but Brentford took the lead in the 58th minute straight from the free kick following the sending off. It was not long lived as Forest equalised 7 minutes later. The latter end of the game saw both sides with chances to steal the three points. Great saves and goal line clearances made for an exciting ending to the game in which a draw was a fair result and sees Forest 11th on the ladder. Away at Crystal Palace next Saturday.

County - Just shy of 10,000 fans were on hand to see the Magpies easily dispose of Swindon Town 3-1 at Meadow Lane. County were easily ahead 3-0 at half time. Swindon pulled one back just after half time in a game that saw Macauley Langstaff score his 50th goal for the club. The solid win now sees them three points clear at the top. Away at Barrow on Saturday.

Stags - A 0-0 home draw against Hollywood FC (Wrexham) saw the Stags maintain their "unbeaten in any competition this season" crown in a game which both sides had their chances thwarted by good saves and near misses. The draw leaves Stags on the verge of dropping out of the play-off places. Home against second placed AFC Wimbledon on Saturday, another difficult game.

Draws all round for Notts clubs yesterday and not a lot of goals either.

County - A 1-1 draw away at Barrow keeps them on top by one point from Stockport County. Both goals were from the penalty spot and County 'keeper Aiden Stone made some fine saves to keep them in the game. Not much else to say about an uninspiring game held in front of just over 4,000 fans. Home against Derby in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night then home against Mansfield Town on Saturday with the game being on t'telly yoof.

Stags - 7,127 fans turned out at Field Mill to see the Stags draw 0-0 with fellow promotion hopefuls AFC Wimbledon. It was a forgettable game with few highlights. At home to Doncaster in the EFL cup on Tuesday and then away at Notts for the local Derby.

Forest - Roy Hogsons 400th game as a premier league manager saw a 0-0 away draw for Forest and keeps them in a mid table position. It was a game of few chances but yet again Forest were unable to find the net. This must surely be a worry and I am surprised that nothing has been done as yet to address this problem. Home against Luton next Saturday.

County - Lose 1-2 at home to "The Sheep" in front of around 6,000 fans, perhaps they didn't see the game important in the scheme of things as the crowd numbers were a little disapointing. Derby's Louie Sibley scored a brace, one in each half and Notts did not pull one back until a penalty in the 78th minute. Notts had two thirds of the possession but could not convert it into chances and never really troubled the Rams 'keeper. Home on Saturday in a local Derby against The Stags with the game being televised.

Stags - A paltry 1,486 turned out at Field Mill to see the Stags maintain their unbeaten in all competitions crown with a 3-2 win against Doncaster Rovers who made the short trip down the motorway to Mansfield. Stags went 2 up in the first 13 minutes with a brace from James Gale, one a penalty. Doncaster went in at half time 2-1 behind but drew level in the 63th minute with a goal from Ironside. Callum Johnson snatched the win for the Stags just before the final whistle. They make the short trip to Meadow Lane on Saturday in what should be a packed house for the first Nottinghamshire league derby in many years.

County and Stags - A less than capacity Meadow Lane crowd? Saw the Stags thump the Magpies 1-4 after going behind in the 3rd minute to a goal by Dan Crowley. The Stags equalised in the 24th minute to end the first half at 1-1. Thre goals in 12 minutes saw the Stags demolish Notts in the second half to knock them off top spot. and they move to 3rd having maintained their unbeaten in any competition crown for 2023, 1 point behind Notts. If you look at the raw stats for the game they would indicate that Notts had the best of the game with the exception of where it mattered, "shots on target" Clough junior would have been well pleased with the result. Notts away at Gillingham and Stags at home to lowly Forest Green Rovers next Saturday

Forest - No game today due to the farcial pause in EPL games.

County -  A solid 2-1 away win at Gillingham. "That man" Macauley Langstaff put them ahead in the 38th minute, Gillingham equalised just after half time and Lewis Macari got the points for Notts with a goal in the 78th minute. The win was not enough to return them to the top of the ladder and remain second 2 points behind Stockport. An obviously frustrated Gillingham collected two yellow cards in added time at the end of the game.

Three home games in a row starting with Newport County on Tuesday.

Stags - Match postponed due to waterlogged pitch. Away at Harrogate Town on Tuesday.

Forest - 29,361 fans saw Forest snatch defeat from the jaws of victory this afternoon at the City Ground. A second half brace from Chris Wood saw Forest seemingly cantering to victory yet inexplicably conceded two goals in the last ten minutes of the game and share the points. Simply not good enough against a lowly team like Luton. Now five games without a win and slowly sliding down the table. Home against Villa next Sunday.
