Guest Anne
Mornin' Caz... Oh I think BIP is broadminded enough to cope don't you. I inagine he's still on the floor recovering from the shock of my proposal cos I haven't heard back It was the Dyson that made me change my mind and want to grab him while they were both still available. Opportunities like this only come once in a lifetime you know!!!!

Guest Anne
Hi Caz.. but don't you think under that exterier is one very quiet subdued shy man waiting to come out. Perhaps even a teetotaller!! I know he's been chatting up women for many a year now..but it is just a show I think. I know he's quite quiet right now..probably thinking things over!!!
Limey 242
......I know he's quite quiet right now..probably thinking things over!!! Nah.... He just figgered out 'ow much a Dyson costs, converted it to pints of HP and now he's wonderin how to get out of the deal! !rotfl!
Frank 13
If you recall a few posts back, Den is moving house today and will be off line fer a few days until he gets his computer re-installed.
Guest Anne
Well...I wish him all the luck in the world in his new home and surroundings. I do know there's no easy way to move, it's always sheer hard work. Sorting and donating and giving stuff away..selling what you can! I just bet the old Dyson goes with him though as well as a truck load of Hemlock Bitter in case it's hard to find there. !!

Caz 25
10.22 PM Thursday Anne. Good to hear shes still going is she still in Perth? that was the 1st place I lived when I emigrated to Oz,lovely city, but now I live in Victoria & get to Melbourne regularly I see it's more for the retired, [perth] in the sense that it's very laid back over there. I did join John's site before Christmas but havent really been on much ,always seem to have too much to do. Are all your family in Canada Anne?
Guest Anne
It must be 14 hours between us then Caz. Jean now lives in Albany and likes it there a lot. I think the weather is better for her.. not so hot. Yes..I have a sister here and son and daughter and their spouses. My other sister lives in Spain. Then 5 years ago we got a lovely surprise..twin grandsons in 7 minutes.. after borrowing other folks all through my life! Best thing that's ever happened to me. !clapping! Caz 25
Oh that's lovely 2 bubs to spoil I don't have grandkids yet, don't even know if my boys will bother having them but it's their decision not mine,I don't care either way as long as they are both happy & they seem to be thank god. I sometimes think it's a blessing they don't have them would make it difficult for us as one son is in UK & the other in Brisbane now,so I wouldn't get to see them very often anyway. I have my lovely dog Duncan to love, they are certainly good companions thats for sure.
Guest Anne
Yep..two blondehaired/blue eyed 5 year olds and I love em to pieces. Yes Caz..you're right and they do have choices nowadays and long as your boys are happy with their lives I think it's great. You must be proud of em..mind you being a Mom isn't easy.. sometimes I used to say to em 'I love you but I don't like you very much right now'!. Duncan sounds luvverly..he even has a Scottish name!! I bet he's spoilt rotten.
Guest Anne
Kath..can you remember Napoleon Square on the right hand side of Wendover Drive opposite the wood yard? Can you remember the little shop in the back room of the old terrace houses where you could buy 2 ozs of sweets on a Sunday afternoon? If you say you can't remember..I won't believe you. I know you can remember Fords!!
katyjay 5,091
I can't remember, honest. I do remember the houses and the inside of the square, but I don't remember a shop. Maybe it was before my time, you are that much older than me, aren't you. ha ha. I do remember Ford's though, and was it Marsden's at the bottom of Broxtowe Lane? And the Post Office, and Patrick's men's hairdressers where the bridge was.
Guest Anne
Hm..I was sure you'd remember ..'even if I am that much older than you' inthebin Can you remember Widdowsons barber shop just before The John Barleycorn?? Don't say you can't..cos I know you can!!! Yes..I think it was Marsden's, I used to go shopping in there for me Mam. It was opposite the bowling greens on Cinderhill Park. Yes..I remember the men's hairdresser before the bridge, but didn't know it's name. Can you remember the wood yard??
rob237 89
Widdowson's was my regular barber's, armed with 2/6d wrapped in my hankie. Grocers at bottom of the lane was Shentall's. Marsdens was in the top section of shops, above the rail bridge....I worked there as a weekend 'Granville' Hairdresser near the bridge was Dave Morfitt. We had a lengthy Broxtowe Lane thread some while ago, I'll try to dig it out. Edit:...beginning of a 6 page thread... http://www.nottstalgia.com/forums/index.ph...wtopic=592&st=0 Cheers Robt P. katyjay 5,091
Yes Anne, I do remember the wood yard, Bramleys. I didn't really hang out in that area, only went if I had to go to the chemist for me mams tablets, or have a pop and a packet of crisps at the Barleycorn. With you living on Harwill, it was easy for you to walk down Wendover and to the bottom of Broxtowe Lane.
Guest Anne
Thanks for filling in some of the shop names Rob. I couldn't remember no matter how I tried. If you went to Widdowsons with 2/6 in your hanky..how much did ya haircut cost back then I wonder? The shops I went to all the time were the 'top shops' on Broxtowe Lane just past the No 1 bus terminus. Kath..did you ever go to the shops on Nuthall Road? The chemist was Stansby's and there was the Co-op and Ford's. I'm going to check out the link now..thanks.
