Craig Strongman 13
Ash, youre mind is playing tricks on you! The Dungeon wasnt licensed at all, and sold only soft drinks, and, I would say tea and coffee, but Im not certain of that last bit........? They certainly didnt have a "closing" slot. As for the allnightrers, they were 8 till 8 I recall, or was it 10 till 8, now my minds playing me up!! I certainly do remember your parkha flapping about on that bike too! Pete C 2
Anyone know if it was the Original Drifters, Bill Pinkneys Drifters..the Invitations posing as the Drifters or the real Drifters who were due to appear on the night of the raid!!! pete c....still riding a vespa
Craig Strongman 13
Ha ha ha! Nice one Pete, thats why in an earlier post, I thought it was the "Fabulous" Temptations we were expecting! Not the real ones, hence the Fabulous word. I really dont know why I got that wrong, as I remember enthusing about the Drifters on the night!
Pete C 2
There were a lot of fakes around then Craig...did Mick Parker know he was booking fake acts?....I often took album covers with me to see if they looked the same...a lot of people thought they were seeing the real thing...even the Boat Club had a fake Don Covay on once..I was very disappointed he wasn't the real deal..we were ripped off. Don't know if you have heard but an original copy of Frank Wilson's Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)..is being auctioned and is expected to fetch around £25,000!!!!this copy belonged at one time to your mate Kev Roberts..auction ends 30th April. pete c....still riding a vespa
Ashley 288
what was mick parker's partner called? something hopkins? surprised no one's mentioned Terry Flyn either
Craig Strongman 13
Ash, Terry Flynn has been mentioned a good few times. Pete, as I understood it, the copy being auctioned at present, is a 3rd "find" and not the one that Kenny Burrel has............. I stand to be corrected though!
Pete C 2
Craig according to this months Record Collector it is the Kenny Burrell copy but on the actual auction site it says it belongs to Tim Brown..Record Collector says Tim Brown had two copies and sold one to Kenny for £15,000 12 years ago. The bids stand at £24735 at the moment and can be viewed at http://www.raresoulman.co.uk I won't be bidding!!! pete c....still riding a vespa
Craig Strongman 13
Wish I knew how to do a "link", sorry, but, if you go to the Goldmine web site, and stick in this......"rare Frank Wilson 45 could fetch $100000" It says the version that Kev Roberts had, was not the same copy that Kenny Burrell owns, and gives info on how the track was lent to Wigan jock Russ Winstanley, it was played at The Casino, but somehow developed an edge warp, but still eventually changed hands for £5000 ! According to that site it was Motown sound engineer Ron Murphy's copy that Kenny bought. (referred to as the second copy) for £15K. It is this one, again, according to them, that is the one being auctioned. PS, it doesnt mention Brown having two copies.
Fynger 841
To do a 'link........just copy ( on right click ) the address at the top o the page and then paste it here......
Pete C 2
Record Collector mag must have some of their facts wrong then Craig..still an amazing price for an old record!!! pete c....still riding a vespa
dobby 0
Def no booze in Dungeon or Mojo. We used to go in Yates offy and buy VP wine to take up to Sheffield with us if we were going to all nighter from the Dungeon. We all had rounded "weekend cases" we used to put it in and if Terry Flynne used to see them he took them off us. Remember being on the bus on Stamford street - women had to go upstairs and be searched by a policewoman. = di we ever get our money refunded?
hippo girl 1,995
hi dobby...think we didn't get any money back after the raid !! remember going up to the belvedere club after as the last bus had gone and don't think anyone thought of a taxi!!

dobby 0
Was with my sister in law when the raid happened and she was so worried her mother would find out she had been invloved in a police raid - even though she was married at the time!! In those days I don't think I had ever been in a taxi.
Craig Strongman 13
Talking of taxis, about the time I started to go to the Dungeon, a mate had his first ever job delivering coal. At the end of the week, he would go to Stephensons on Hyson Green, or Jeffs on Alfreton rd, and buy a pair of light grey trousers, which were worn for best Friday Saturday and Sunday, and then for work all week, and the process continued, Friday, new trews, wear them for the weekend, and then for for work all week..........ad infinitum, but on the Friday night, he would pay for a taxi for us to just ride around town until his money had been used up, whereby we then headed back to the Market Square, to hang around. It happened every single week for as long as I can remember!
