  1. Lovely Post Alison - food for thought.............. John Lennon said that The Beatles' journey to becoming successful / famous was best when it was at its dream state. Sweet Dreams................
  2. Hi Chrissie, am very well thanks and yourself? Great that you're a fan of Arbus, her name should be honoured with Love. Am also fan of Ansel Adams, Georgia O' Keefe and who was the photographer who snapped loads of Black and White images of New York during the 50's? - riveting stuff - I'll have to Google........... PS: And also Robert Mapplethorpe, friend of Patti Smith - you can tell I read lots of Photography books during the quiet times in the Library, plus also I'd loan them. PPS: Still do lots of photography although these days it's with a digital, much prefer the creativity of an
  3. Hi there Pete, I spent some years working in the 'Art and Design' Library at Nottingham Trent Poly (now University) - responsible for Inter Library Loans. I must have taken a look - when things were slow - through every photography book in the seven bays on the subject that the Library housed. Trent Poly was very well respected throughout the land for its Lecturers and splendid 'Photography' Degree course, so we had the best of books on the subject. Cartier Bresson and Diane Arbus are amongst my favourite photographers. PS: Have taken a look at your website and am well impressed - keep up
  4. Man Ray, one of the Greats within the Art of Photography..........
  5. My 'Comfort Food' is a Boiled Egg Sandwich - back to basics. I boil my eggs for 4 minutes, peel them, put them on my buttered brown bread, add salt and pepper and hey presto something to eat that's simple and good. PS: Serve with a hot cup of tea........
  6. My recommendation is go back to them both Cliff Ton. I left my piano for a while but now I'm well back and singing along as I make music; even thinking of joining a choir in my mature years - my voice is becoming stronger and that makes me happy...............
  7. Piano and Guitar and other bits and pieces i.e.: flute, mouth organ and really enjoy a bash on my tambourine - 'I Heard it through the Grapevine', Marvin Gaye is great for this.................
  8. I quite enjoy the stimulus of 'living on a budget'; it sets me a challenge and also the imagination working. Must say that I eat well and varied ...................... PS: Made some gorgeous fritters the other evening; let you into a secret: I used 'Jane Asher's Dumpling Mix' (from B&M, 19p) instead of the usual batter mix. Verdict: truly delicious. PPS: Now don't you all go mad and rush to B&M for the dumpling mix; save some for me!
  9. Thoughts on: Barbara Clough and Lillian Taylor, women deserving respect: taking a dignified back seat to their husbands who were constantly in the limelight at a certain time in Football History. Many times I suspect these ladies were called upon to soothe their men's battered egos............. God Bless
  10. Love the name of the new Royal Prince: George; Solid and Strong - no fuss. The choosing of this name by William and Kate must have given the Queen immense happiness - in loving memory of her beloved father King George V1. '..................Send her Victorious, Happy and Glorious, Long to reign over us, God save the Queen.' Many, many Cheers for the new Royal Prince, Hip Hip Hooray, Hip Hip Hooray, Hip Hip Hooray, Hip Hip Hoor............................................................
  11. Beefy, absolutely Brilliant - a powerful piece of rhetoric @ #47 and what's more it made me laugh out loud too.
  12. Thrilled at the news that Kate and William are the proud parents of a baby boy.
  13. Looking out on my kitchen window this morning: I'm so pleased that rain has fallen on my garden. Yesterday, my hydrangeas looked in danger of withering, now they're standing pretty and pink and erect.
  14. Enjoy anything that Helena Bonham Carter's in; wonder what she'll make of the role of Elizabeth Taylor, tomorrow night, 9pm, BBC4? Riveting, I expect ..............
  15. Cliff Ton, you're so kind for putting the above on @ #44; thank you so much - wonderful images.
  16. Hi DGBrit, I was in Italy for a well deserved holiday a few weeks back. It is an expensive country but well worth it. So I advise you to take plenty of Euros, or as many as you can afford - don't skimp yourself; then you can have a really great holiday without worrying whether your money's going to last out or not. Bon Voyage - incidentally where in Italy are you planning on going?
  17. It's Beautiful, this Gorgeous Sunny Weather of Summer and no more than we deserve after the viciously cold, long winter we suffered through. The Sun Shining has to be the Best Thing in the World .................................
  18. Remember: 'The Huggett's.
  19. Hi Pixie, happy to read that you're getting ready to take a well deserved holiday....................... Whatever you do, being as you're destined for St Ives, don't forget to pack a decent camera. St Ives is well known for its Quality of Light, so you should be able to take lots of distinctive images. The place is also renowned for its number of artists, past and present. 'Tate Modern' is housed here. In the past, I know that David Bowie had connections with the place, he may at one time have even owned a property not far from St Ives, whether he still has it? .................. PS: Ho
  20. Watched 'Imagine' on the telly last night; Alan Yentob interviewing Rod Stewart. *Archive material showed that the young 'Rod the Mod' certainly had enough charisma and talent and was destined to go places. A magical moment in musical history was captured with Rod and 'The Faces' on 'Top of the Pops', kicking a football around on stage whilst singing 'Maggie May'; real CRAZY for the time - groups didn't do such things - but Rod did it with style in his plum coloured suit and demi cockscomb hairstyle - refreshing and original. He's become mellow and philosophical with age; been through
  21. How sorry I was to read of the passing of Bernie Nolan. How well I recall Bernie from the 1970's when she sang so enthusiastically with 'The Nolan Sisters' on 'Top of the Pops'. Her force and charisma will be sadly missed here on planet Earth but I'm sure they will be appreciated 'Up There'. God Bless Bernie xx
  22. Notty ash, LizzieM, you are lucky people to be privileged with hedgehogs in your garden; I have to make do with a scupture of one in my conservatory. Here's hoping ............................
  23. Stan, how beautiful for you, becoming a Grandfather first time around; he sounds a healthy boy weighing in at 9lbs. It's lovely being a grandparent; I wish you many years of fun ........................
  24. Katyjay (Kath), thinking of you. What a terrible time for you to experience; how can we even imagine the scene and the feelings within peoples' hearts. Christine xx
  25. 'Little Darling, here comes the sun and I say: 'it's alright little darling................'
