  1. Skinner and Rook disappeared in - I think - the 1950s Don't think Redgate still exist - in fact I can't think of any "Pop men" who are still operating Midland Red don't exist any more. Buses and Coaches have been regulated, deregulated, nationalised, privatised and I think they are now part of "National" like verything else Lymn's probably haven't got that old Roller, but they still have stretched Rollers
  2. Cotgrave Colliery started working in 1964, so presumably the bridge and viaduct were in place before the opening.
  3. I would've thought that the problem is.........you may know what you are doing, but can you possibly know what "they" are doing - or likely to do - on the other side?
  4. Shouldn't that be ........gypsies were in the meadow and we rushed down after tea and stood in awe and watched them around their camp fire with their Toyota Landcruisers and Range Rovers? with apologies to jackson
  5. I guess you're referring to the line to Cotgrave Colliery. (I'm sure Ashley will know more about it). I guess it hasn't seen any trains since the pit closed in the 90s, so it's surprising it has survived this long. The branch line only had a working life of about 20 years, but it included a fairly spectacular viaduct between the river and the A52.
  6. It is indeed Melton Road. The bowling green/tennis courts have survived, and the embankment on the right has also survived as a footpath - right down to Boundary Road. The (former) embankment on the left has disappeared and is now an old peoples' sheltered complex
  7. If you search "White Hart" in Picture the Past they have a lot of photos and illustrations of the place at various times in its history, including the walls and gardens and prison which Babs mentioned in her post
  8. Back on the subject of railway bridges in West Bridgford, here's a before-and-after which might bring back a few memories
  9. That means I've got some kind of reputation to live up to.....no chance, so I'll go on being a mere mortal Thanks anyway
  10. Old men with white beards, chasing children round a park ?!? I'm fairly liberal minded, but even I would be a bit worried about that
  11. As it was me who brought this subject up............ It could be that some people thought it was called Ponderosa for one reason, and other people thought it was called Ponderosa for another reason.
  12. Digging around on Picture the Past I found these which I don't think have been mentioned before, and I don't remember any of them Colwick Road, Sneinton Derby Road, Lenton (that's the Savoy cinema on the left) High Road, Beeston Also High Road, Beeston (Durham Ox and Greyhound are still around)
  13. Done. First time I've done that since I got my new powers !
  14. This topic seems to have been diverted into a baths and washing direction. Here's a list of where you could've gone back in the 40s And what you could do in them
  15. I know quite a few people on this site were/are from these areas. Picture the Past have a new batch of photos which include aerial shots of these parts of North Nottm at various times over the years. Here's the page which has the thumbnails to click on. Hit "previous" and "next" and there are quite a few more. http://www.pictureth...=search&page=54
  16. And it's been mentioned before, but strangely not on this thread; the Clifton Bridge Inn at Silverdale was always known by locals as the Ponderosa. Never been in, but apparently because it resembled the ranch on one of the early 1960s TV westerns.
  17. This 'un? http://www.pictureth...001009&prevUrl=
  18. Welcome btb11. Reading your post was almost spooky, because I could have written it about myself. I also went on the buses from Fairham - and Greencroft Juniors - to the swimming baths. And I think the ones you are referring to were Victoria Baths, next to Sneinton Market. I remember going there, but until today I had never thought about those pictures on the wall which everyone wanted to look at. It ain't brilliant, but this is the best photo I can find so far of the building in question, and the wall where the photos were
  19. The caves on Castle Boulevard have been mentioned previously, including a few photos and Streetview references showing how everything looks today http://nottstalgia.c...le&fromsearch=1
  20. There was a thread on the subject a couple of years ago which answers many questions http://nottstalgia.c...ey&fromsearch=1
  21. I don't know the area, so I may be barking up the wrong tree here. Pic the Past have some new photos and one of them is this, which I think might be the same cut-through which has been under discussion. http://www.pictureth...000215&prevUrl=
  22. A bit before my time this one, and I doubt if anyone has mentioned it before http://www.pictureth...019489&prevUrl=
  23. As this thread seems to have become sub-titled "Old photos of your relatives" here's my contribution. The lady on the right was my grandmother, and I believe - not certain - the old lady in the middle was her mother. I've chosen this photo because of its location; there's an obvious clue with local connections in the background. The date has to be pre-1930.
  24. Welcome Trevor. I am also a product of the Firs (although I don't actually have any memories of it) and I think it's the first time I've seen the place mentioned in these pages.
