  1. I first looked up Haddenham and Google Maps took me to a place in Bucks. But, looking up 'The Three Kings' has it in Haddenham , Ely. No hiding place Margie....
  2. As I mentioned in the 'Weather' thread.. I went out for a walk up the hill this afternoon. Took a few pics. Nothing special, but if I can get round to posting them they'll give a 'flavour' of the 'Grand Duchy of Billinge'. Did some weights when I got back, before settling down to 'Strictly' and a couple of films.. 'I Robot', and 'Harry Brown'. Both entertaining and thought provoking. As a former Chair and Member of Billinge Parish Council, I always get an invite to the Remembrance Sunday stuff. I've laid wreaths on behalf of Billinge Parish Council, both in the village, and in St Hele
  3. Went for my walk. Even took a few pics, but forgot all about them until now. I'll post them later..
  4. Went for a short walk yesterday. Up onto the ridge which is the only thing sheilding us from the worst of the fierce westerly's which can happen here. The full flush of autumn colour only really kicked in here in the last week or so, but sadly the strong winds are taking the leaves off the trees almost before we can enjoy them. It was a real shock to the system after the remarkable weather we've had of late. Just after 4 pm and already going dark. There's a lady who keeps a few ponies on the top of the ridge. She was there feeding, mucking out and whatever and I stopped for a q
  5. Old news now, but I was in Nottm last weekend overnight for my neice's 50th. When you have 50 year old neices, you know you are getting old... It was a good night, at Mapperley Golf Club. I believe there are terrific views from up there, but they aren't great in the dark, when it's cloudy. Set off home about 12:00 Sunday and decided I couldn't be bothered with the usual A50/M6 route, so I went M1/A34 and cut over to Matlock via Tansley. Made a change. A6 through Bakewell and Buxton and over the Cat and Fiddle pass to Macclesfield. Sadly the Cat and Fi
  6. Had a look up there sometime early 60s when camping at Merebrook Farm, just between Whatstandwell and Cromford. We didn't see anything either, though I don't think they stood about in the open. This says last one seems to have disappeared around 2009. http://www.roaches.org.uk/memories5.html Col
  7. Didn't there used to be Wallabies roaming about near Riber in Derbyshire?
  8. Evening all! I've been a bit distracted with a few issues. Can't go into them here.. You really wouldn't believe it. Carni. Good to hear you survived. Nonna. Good that you are OK. I spent an evening at Mapperley GC last Sat. Very nice place. Margie, sadly, we were taken up Breck Hill Rd so didn't get to wave at your old place, but I did recall cycling down Breck Hill as a lad..That was fun..
  9. Could be Loppy, though Eva Cassidy had a rather more sombre take on it: Love the song though.. one of Eva's best ..
  10. Don't worry Phil. I'm just as cynical. At most garden centres these days, buying plants is almost an incidental, compared to the time spent undercover buying , as you say 'over priced tat' and having a meal. The question is, what will the employer be looking for in a prospective new recruit?
  11. Just a quick response Margie as I'm off out soon. (Was typing this as Phil replied) First thoughts are that as 'Retail Therapy ' seems to be largely a leisure pursuit these days, Garden Centres are increasingly broadening the range of products they sell. So, whereas many years ago they basically supplied plants, compost and garden tools, many now have 'on site' Restaurants etc. They've gone from being a 'plant shop/nursery' to a destination. Many now I suspect buy in all of their plants from specialist nurseries, and concentrate on selling them. There's a smallish on
  12. The Sparklet's Beer Tap I had was made for fitting onto 'Party Seven' type cans and could be adjusted to fit the 4 pint size. It used the standard small sized CO2 cylinder, same type as used for lighter gas and now seen all over the streets after silly kids have inhaled the Nitrous Oxide ( laughing gas) which is supplied in them. I threw mine out a few years back, but still have the special sized can opener, which placed a hole further in from the rim than you'd get from the older type intended for 'Schweppes' cans of soda or tonic etc. I have a couple of glass Soda syphons in th
  13. Mary, you don't actually 'need' any more apps than those that came pre-installed on your phone. In fact you may not even need all of those. You don't need to download anything you don't want. There are millions of 'Apps' out there. Some might be useful to you, most won't. It's up to you what you download. Also, Apps will ask (demand) access to your location, your files, your contacts or whatever. It's up to you whether you give it. There are 'good' apps. For e.g, one app I have is from Panasonic and allows my camera to 'talk' to my phone via Wi-Fi, or '
  14. Agreed Lizzie. I use texting to open up a conversation, but if I need to say more than a few words, I call. I'm now getting unlimited texts and unlimited 'minutes', plus 8 gig data, for about £8 per month . It's good to talk.
  15. I'll second that!! Have a great day Dave.
  16. Small world. I lived at 76 Glaisdale Drive pretty much from birth (1949) until we moved to Bestwood about 1952..ish. A few years ago I discovered that a cousin's family had been living in Orion Close at the same time. I'm the only one left alive who remembers us living there and I'm a bit uncertain now. 76 Glaisdale West is a typical 'Council' house, whereas I recall a two story 'prefab' with sort of cladding type walls. I recall a corner and going round to the street behind, which would be Bramerton. But then again maybe we were at Glaisdale East. Had a look a few years ago and 76 Eas
  17. Must've been one of George's better films then. He He!!!..Terned owt nice agen!!
  18. I'm going to be at a party in Nottm on Sat and wil mis the final episode of Killing Eve, so will have to catch it on Sunday... No spoilers please! For me, of all the 'Scandi' dramas I've seen, the Steig Larsson trilogy ( The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo/Played With Fire/Kicked the Hornet's Nest) was by far the best. I bought the full extended Blu Ray version, which is basically the origiinal TV series and it will get an outing on some dark day over wnter when I don't want to go out. I can't watch it with the dubbed English.. I have to hear the language and read the subtitles.
  19. Low carb diet got to me earlier after a swim. Came home and was biting the arm of my chair till I gave in and scoffed a pack of those instant noodles. It will be 'Back on yer 'eads' tomorrow though.
  20. Was looking at Google Maps the other day Margie and recalling how I used to get off the A1M at Balby in Doncaster and get a bus from the 'Winning Post' pub into the centre, then another bus out to Hatfield to see the lovely Jenny. Open All Hours was filmed in the back streets along that road and it seems that the 'Arkwright' store is still there. Lister Street Balby.
  21. I was 'Milk Monitor' and proud of it. It takes pride of place on my C.V. Haven't drunk full milk for decades, though I do use it in sauces occasionally.
  22. To each his own.. as they say...
  23. I've just had a couple of fried eggs with bacon, mushrooms and a (very thin) fried slice. Bit naughty that 'cos I'm supposed to be as near as dammit carb free at present. I like my eggs cooked with a runny yolk, but a fully set white. Unless I'm having hard boiled.. that is, but even then I don't like them overdone. What I really hate are eggs which spread out all over the frying pan like water. You get this even with supposedly 'fresh eggs' with a long sell by date. I finally found a shop in St Helens which does excellent eggs which 'sit up' in the pan. Worth a trip down on the bus
  24. Quiet day here. Complete rest from fitness training so I drained a bit of water out of the heating to make room for a bottle of corrosion inhibitor. By the time I'd run up and down dozens of times draining, re-filling, bleeding, re-pressursing etc., I might as well have done a few miles walking... Nonna. I hope things improve for you soon. Col
