  1. I have a Burrow`s Pointer Guide Map of Nottingham (sixth edition) ,must be worth at least a dollar in view of the above! Who were Henry Hallam & Son, who donated them?

  7. That`s one Mattsdigs, but the one I was amazed by was the underground Hypogeum. It was said that it was possible to walk the entire length of Malta underground. "Many subterranean passageways, including ancient catacombs, now are a part of the island’s fortifications and defense system. Supplies are kept in many tunnels; others are bomb shelters. Beneath Valletta some of the underground areas served as homes for the poor. Prehistoric men built temples and chambers in these vaults. In a pit beside one sacrificial altar lie thousands of human skeletons. Years ago one could walk underground fro
  8. Not as world moving as Churchill, but still a great man. Civil rights leader Nelson Mandela diesThe famed anti-apartheid revolutionary and politician who served as president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999 died Thursday at age 95.

  10. Following the deaths of Notts people in an`air-raid shelter' ,where we lived the people (mostly young wives and children), realised how pointless they were,so would meet on Blue Bell Hill in Cotterell`s milk shop , (when the siren sounded) where the feeling seemed to be we will all go together when we go.!
  11. From my first Prof. " By the time you can afford a system that can play a range above 20,000 Hz. your ears and brain won`t !" (The average adult human can hear sounds between 20 Hz and 16,000 Hz, so you may not hear anything during the last few seconds.)
  12. Is that why the English team were dropping all those easy catches?
  13. We did have two (almost as great). Try the man who started as a private soldier (volunteer) at the beginning of WW2 and ended up a Brigadier General at the end. A man who was a brilliant academic (full professor at 25) only pushed out by the establishment because he was too honest and straight and brilliant. The other I will not mention, because that person cannot be named in the same breath as the other two!
  14. Malta again,I agree what a lovely place.
  15. This did thinking of you lot in the FREEZING north ! > https://www.youtube.com/embed/xKy2lLNQYrI?rel=0
  16. Don`t know if this is the right place, but worth a look. 3 Ladies - This was in 1944. NOW ... THE SINGING IS VERY GOOD ... BUT YOU CAN'T IMAGINE THE DANCING THEY DO FOLLOWING THE SONG. YOU CAN TALK ABOUT YOUR "GYMNASTS" AND THEIR FLEXABILITY, BUT THESE THREE WOULD PUT THEM TO SHAME. INCREDIBLE. WATCH AND ENJOY ... AND THEN TRY AND IMAGINE BEING ABLE TO DO ANY OF THESE "EXERCISES." Amazing 3 Ladies This was in 1944! During the first 50 seconds, they are singing, but

  18. Although a tiny island my wife and I had a wonderful holiday there. Full of history and historic buildings. The comedian chap (Connolly) has a home on Gozo (good choice). The only reason we found it was due to the troubles throughout Syria etc in the Middle East. If you haven`t been I advise a visit. Wonderful.
  19. Just what Nottstalgia is all about Bilbraborn.
  20. Mr. Charlesworth,I wish my PSA was as low as 0.10 mine is 10 times that at 1.0 and I am quite delighted.! Anything under 6.51 is in the `normal range in Australia. So don`t let it spoil your Christmas. There are enough of the PC crowd around that will try to do that. HAPPY HOLIDAY CRAP !!!! it is Happy CHRISTMAS. Bah humbug !
  21. I think on reflection JOCO spent 6 million pounds of ratepayers` funds. How quickly we forget the vast fortune the council wasted in foolish investments (e.g.Iceland) . Wonder if it was ever recovered,-very much doubt it.
  22. Is that the one that is going to cost you 1 Billion to fix their computers?
  23. Strange that ! I was in the square a few times in August. The theme was Nottingham on sea or some such. A beach (the sand was later sold to Dubai I read on this forum) There was free concerts, dodgems, rides, and the kids were playing in the water features. Multitudes of closed shops, buses and trams stacked with grey nomads going nowhere in particular.Beautiful sunny weather almost like home. A wonderful day at Beeston marina with a gang of geriatrics from school, and lunch the next day at a fabulous pub with the most beautiful girl from my year and yes she was still incredibly beautiful! A
