  13. Bought the book yesterday. It gives details of every known "Fothergill" building whether still standing or demolished. Details include who the building was put up for, who the builder was, what year it was built, what is it's present use.& gives a Ordnance Survey map reference. http://theworksofwatsonfothergill.weebly.com/ For any one interested in some of Nottingham's older buildings it is well worth the £17.99. Although the rail card costs £28 two trips to see my mother(lives near Tywyn) & it pays for it's self. I use my bus pass at least once a week.(Mainly to visit Nottingham) I believe I can't use my bus pass(Leicestershire C.C.) on the trams.

  21. Looking at the photographs of the building of the GCR I often wonder what happened to all the spoil.?
  22. Yes three of them & the stuff that was dug out where Carrington Station was too. The bit of the tunnel under Thurland Street was done cut & cover to lessen the risk to buildings such as the "Corn Exchange & Smiths Bank"(Watson Fothergill)
  23. There would have been a lot of rock needed for infill for the viaducts through the meadows & what about Bulwell viaduct.
  24. One small point the Charlotte Street/Mount East Street area in the 1890s was supposed to be the worst "slum area" in the town/city & the council wanted "rid"of it so the building of the GCR/GNR station saved them a problem. It is interesting to see some of what was taken out to build Victoria station I have some large scale maps (not all of the route) covering Basford to Wilford dated 1881. Over TWENTY public houses were demolished for the building of the Victoria station.
