  1. Most reinstated open cast sites have been turned into nature reserves or capped over for agricultural use, many into top class fisheries that charge a fortune to fish them, take a look at that well known nature reserve near Nottingham, Attenborough nature reserve, won many prizes for innovation and awards for their work with local nature and wildlife, it was started off by open cast for sand and gravel Rog
  2. Great result Phil, Now get out and sort that garden Rog
  3. Another interest of mine, old engines, they've had a good run and a light coat of boiled linseed oil, adds a bit of protection and look good, Lister D, petrol, water cooled from 1952 and Lister ST1 diesel aircooled from 1962, both on home made trucks Lister D Lister ST before the linseed treatment and after the treatment I do have an electric powered stationary it's called an electric motor about as interesting as a bang on the head, not even wasting my time taking a picture of it Rog
  4. Coal is king and what's more it's ours, British coal under British soil, not French or Chinese, not buying from the Russians or importing wood pellets from North America, dig up the coal and use it, the Chinese and Russians do and no one is demonstrating against them or gluing themselves to the roads and throwing orange dust all over the place Rog
  5. Going to have to build more power stations to cope with the extra demand on the grid, (coal or gas fired power stations would be my best choice) Rog
  6. Get it up here Barrie and I'll wash it for you mate Rog

  9. I wold recommend fitting one,The setup I use is a Bucklos set using 170mm crankarms, the oval chainring range through 32, 34, 36, and 38 teeth, for the crankset including one of the size rings cost £28.42, is of good quality and lightweight, easy to fit, just check the chain line when fitted you can either fit it on the outside or the inside of the crankarm spider I got my set off Ebay, hope this helps Rog
  10. Switch the sat nav to a mans voice and you would get the correct directions every time Phil Rog
  11. A good ride out today for a couple of hours with the new 36 t oval chainring fitted, pleasantly surprised on how it performed, seemed much easier to pedal especially when going up hill (slight gradient) or when accelerating, I think I will keep this chainring on, appeared to be a lot smoother/easier, difficult to describe really but I thought it made a difference Rog
  12. My always say's "why the **** don't you listen to me you ******* know all idiot" Rog
  13. Just read in the Newark advertiser the old M&S building is going to be demolished, it was only a few weeks ago it was announced it was going to be converted into small units and dwellings, I saw a couple more shops closed on Stodman street this morning not forgetting the final closure of Wetherspoons later this month (incidentally it was full of customers this morning) Rog
  14. Just one stall open today on Newark market Rog
  15. Thanks for the reply, completely understand where you're coming from with the weather, I had a short ride yesterday to try out the new oval chainring but gave up when the heavy rain came, I arrived home wet, cold and nothing to report on the chainring, wasn't riding for long enough Rog
  16. Pianoman, do we have a report about the new handlebar grips yet? Rog
  17. can't argue with that Barrie Rog
  18. I gave you a like Margie for the successful result of the cataract removal 22 years ago but sorry to read about the macular degeneration, and for that I give you a big hug Rog
  19. Barrie, mrs P is also terrified, Boots opticians sent her to Newark earlier this year to get them sorted and after spending a few hours in the clinic having various eye tests and being taken to the operating theatre so she could have a look at the place she decided she didn't want to go through with the procedure, now she has to have her eyes done because they are getting worse, I know she should have had them sorted when she was at Newark but fear is a powerful thing, anyway hopefully all will be sorted soon, don't delay Barrie and put your fears behind you Rog
  20. Trouble here is when Mrs P's eyes are all sorted and she can see much better she will be able to see all the cycles in me sheds Rog
  21. Off to Louth in a bit, taking Mrs P for some eye examinations prior to her cataract removal next week, we spent just over three hours at the Lincoln County Hospital last Tuesday having checks then a phone consultation yesterday for an hour, hopefully she can have them sorted now Rog
  22. I'm not a professional but I'm safety aware, I wore my wellies this morning but with I had changed the shorts for trousers because after strimming the field edge all the nettle bits thrown up by the strimmer have nettled the backs of my legs (so not that safety aware then, note to self, cover your legs next time) Rog
  23. It was announced yesterday the date for Wetherspoons in Newark Sir John Arderne will close it's door on Sunday August 20th and Wilkos have announced they are looking for an administrator, soon there will only be mobile phone repair shops, nail bars and charity shops left in the town Rog
