  4. Yes I fully agree with your comments, the two people you mention are only the very tip of this terrible iceberg and we should'nt forget all the other millions who are suffering. On a similar note, I was listening to Jade Goody's PR man, Max Clifford who said he is trying to raise as much money as possible for Jades two little boy's to help give them a good education, very comendable, but what about all the other young mothers who have suffered and are still suffering the same fate, who will champion their cause? My thought's are with Patrick's and Jades family and all the other sufferers of

    Clifton

Hi MG, Slip on plimsolls, I learned to ride a two wheeled bike like that, that was at Clifton as well, that little triangle of land near the 68 bus terminus. Thanks for that memory Rog
  6. Just been on Lincs FM news (11.00) that members and employees of the Vulcan to the skies trust might get the remaining £500.000 needed to keep 558 alive in the UK. They are visiting all 15 preserved Vulcans in the UK to raise awareness to their plight, For those interested they will be at Newark air museum at about lunchtime today (Sunday 22nd Feb) and then on to Waddington for a photo call in front of 607 at approx 15.00hrs with, possibly some of the aircrew. Rog
  7. Do these people really want to keep the Vulcan in the air? The show they put on last Tuesday was an engine startup plus maybe a trundle down the runway at Bruntingthorpe, OK, admittance by ticket only, OK. Tickets cost £20 each, OK. but only on sale the day before the "show" Monday when not many folk can get there and only advertised at the last minute, I found out about it on Thursday, two days after the event, Rog
  8. Nice pictures there Beefsteak, and the new lens is working a treat, can't wait to see the Danish F16s, by the way, did you have your camera upside down in the first shot? !rotfl! Cheers mate and roll on the 8th April Rog
  9. Beefsteak arrived at my place at 08.00hrs and after a quick coffee we set off for RAF Scampton, I know Beefsteak is a great Red Arrows fan and he wasn't disappointed, on arrival there was a single Red Hawk going through his routine, the new lens was put through it's paces with some high speed passes, a few minutes later four more Reds took off and displayed what looked like the a new routine for 2009 this gave Beefy plenty of chances to get all the pictures he wanted of the Reds in action, he called it his "personal display". A quick drive up to Waddington for a cuppa and bacon roll at the Sen
  10. Zeberdee coming over the hill saying " and so to bed" Magic Roundabout
  11. Ayup Mick, Talking about Zulu, I live about a mile and a half from Gonville-Bromheads (Michael Cain's character in the film) family home, in fact his great great niece still tends to the flowers in the family church, she was talking to my missus the other week about her family history, but you know women, didn't have a clue who she was on about. I must get some pictures for you Rog
  12. Battle of Britain, Dambusters, Zulu.
  13. Have you tried the National Coal Mining museum for England? they have massive archives, might be worth getting in touch with them Rog
  14. Never see anyone go scrumping any more
  15. How did the NASA boffins know the moon lander was going to settle on the moons surface in a dead level attitude, the reason I'm asking this is because if the lander was only slightly tilted from the vertical on take off it wouldn't be on the same course as the command vehicle and quite a lot of course altering would be needed to get it back on the same trajectory< I dont remember any such maneuvering taking place while I was watching it on TV, just a thought Rog
  16. Ayup John, Probably mentioned it before but there is/was a self published "book" called "Radford colliery the bread and herring pit" don't remember the author though, I think he did it all on his home PC and stapled all the pages together, fantastic read, unfortunately I lent my copy to someone and never saw it again, got it from that Nottingham book shop under the council house building Rog
  17. looking forward to reading your posts, welcome to a great site Rog
  18. Hi Bazzer, Take the locking nut off and turn it upside down (as if putting it on the wrong way) that should lock your cutting disc in place, (thick disc is for grinding, thin disc is for cutting but the locking nut is the same) hope this has helped Rog ps: never tighten the lock not with the spanner/tool, thats just for loosening
  19. According to a press release, if the Vulcan to the skies trust can't raise £400.000 in the next month they are going to declare the project/company bankrupt, Some American company's or individuals have shown an interest in buying the whole thing but if that happens it will all be shipped to the United States, so it looks like the only flight it will be making will be to the USA, the staff at Vulcan to the skies (14) have been put on a months notice Rog
  20. Happy Birthday Caz, we're all thinking about you Rog
  21. It's still a lot less fuel to carry though as opposed to breaking through the earths atmosphere and gravitational pull, but in typical yank fashion once they've been to a place they are never quite so welcome to go back again Rog
  22. The Americans tell us that it would be too expensive to launch another moon mission, why? they are nearly half way there already with the space station and to launch a space ship from there would require a lot less fuel (the most expensive and the most heavy part of a rocket) than it would from the earth with the gravitational pull that's involved, they tell us that the next visit will be to Mars but why not use the moon as a launch pad? less gravity equals less fuel equals smaller space ship or same size space ship with more capacity for crew or spares Rog
  23. So if the moon is made of cheese why isn't it infested with mice?
  24. The last moon landing had to be abandoned when an electrical fault developed in the landers ignition sytem not allowing the fuel to ignite, the on board electrician said it could not be repaired as he couldn't get an Earth !laughing! Rog from that great planet....Nottingham
