  1. Ayup all, As kids we all collected things from time to time, be it frog spawn and conkers or holes in your trousers and nits. What did you collect and what do you wish you had kept? Don't be shy Roger

  3. I can't remember having gone to the wash house myself, but I can remember when I were a nipper my granny would put me in the copper after the washing was done to give me a bath, one day she left the gas switched on to the copper and with a shriek she shouted to my grandfather "Bloody hell Fred I've boiled our Roger" Ah well all part of growing up in the meadows in the 50s I suppose. Roger

  5. Does anyone remember the old wash house on Bunbury street/Muskham street? I think it was joined somehow to Portland baths. I can just remember going past their and seeing these women standing in the doorway with their pinny's on, turbans on their heads and their arms folded gossiping while waiting for the washing to be done in some giant? wash tubs. As I remember it the washing was whiter than white and it carried a really wash day smell if you know what I mean.
  6. Sorry to hear that Barnze, when things like this happen the effects are'nt felt till some time later when the Bas****s who administered what is potentially a poison are well gone. all we can hope for is the same happens to them, but that statement makes me no better than them so just accept my sympathy. Cheers Rog
  7. Rob, If she had done she would have sent in an American businessman, done an assessment, shut down the schools as being non profitable, demolished the buildings and built retail parks on them and destroyed the community. as in the coal mines.

  9. Foxy, I started my school life at Collygate, it must have been about 1957, can't remember much about it though. I know I wasn't impressed much by it . My granny lived over the way on Wilford grove above and at the back of the shop, I think it was the co op in those days so truancy stated early for me. one thing I do remember though was those iron railings that kept us in, figured it was some sort of punishment. I'll have a good think to see if anything springs to mind about the early years and post if anything comes up. Roger
  10. What childhood games did you play? I remember they seemed to have seasons ie: Marballs, conkers, soap carts (trollies) etc Roger
  11. I worked there in about 94-95 as a welder in its declining years, and a sorry place it was too, even then they were importing far eastern frames at some stupidly low price but refused to lower the prices on their bikes, I guess when greed started to take over sales dropped off, other companies were buying frames from the same far eastern manufactures but they were passing the savings on to the customer and as history has shown us they are still in business whilst the graspers at the Raleigh are only left with a badge. Roger

  14. Hi John, I find one way to pi$$ off any form of tailgater is to set a couple of your screen washers a little high so they blow the liquid over your roof and onto the car behind, before it reaches their screen it's almost dry and when they use their wipers it tends to smear the screen, they soon learn to drop back out of range and usually overtake just to get out of your way Roger

On airshow days the planes usually stack up over my place so I get a good view anyway. but this year I will secure all windows and roof tiles just in case Vulcan does a few circuits overhead, Can't wait. Cheers Roger
