Bit OT, Many years ago my brother and his mates used to frequent a chinese near Canning circus, on Alfreton road I think, After a particular heavy Friday nights boozing they went to thier usual haunt and had a sit down meal, while eating it one of his mates started choking on a small bone he had swallowed. He was pretty bad so was taken to hospital where the offending bone was removed under anaesthetic, it was found to be a cat bone ! Sounds unthinkable but it did happen, be in the mid 60's.

I actually love cooking and while we are travelling I cook most of our meals, we have a Weber gas bbq, and a full cooker inside and a convection microwave. I make a mean curry and a favourite is a meat and potato pie (mums old recipe). My missus is pretty good with sausage rolls, but I usually make the pastry.

Love the look of new fallen snow, could do with a bit of cold stuff here, over 40c at the moment and only dropping to 29c overnight ! A/C again yuk!

Just got myself a flyscreen for the Vespa, delivered from Guernsey channel islands tax free, and less than half the oz cost including registered mail ! Can't say as I remember a Vespa with copper bubbles or the bloke you mention. My Li had the whole panel each side as the union jack. My next door neighbour knew a sign writer who did it for me. Grans lace thread used to come on wooden bobbins and she used to make me the French knitting thing with the four nails. We made lengths of the tube thingy and sewed it into coasters.

When last in Nottm in 2011, we went to the Steamboat on a Sunday afternoon, was packed, even the outdoors area, we had to stand somewhere for 15 mins before we got a seat. I remember the Lambo's and Vespa's with the chrome side panels, we all used to envy them when we met up around the square. I had mine professionally done with union jacks on my LI 150, but they got nicked when we moved into a house on Gladstone st Hyson Green. Got em replaced by insurance but only in primer as that is how they came. So ended up leaving them in the house and riding it naked (the scoot that is).

My last knitting project will make you laugh. I have 4 daughters, two of which are midwifes. Whilst doing their upgrade course from registered nurse to midwifery at university, the course required the girls to knit, or aquire an atificial boob ! yes a breast complete with nipple ! this was to use a s a teaching aid to new young mums, in the art of breastfeeding. Strangely enough and rarely admitted, but I've been able to knit since I was around 9 or 10 ! mum was a seamstress but did heaps of knitting, including professionally for a designer, in mohair, in Intarsia style, which items were then sold in Japan for extortionate silly money ! (my mum got a fixed fee per item) I also used to watch gran, who was a lace worker and made beautiful items from lots of balls of thread, all by hand. I took my HGV class 1, in the late 70's, did a 5 day course with BRS on top of St Annes Well road, was in a large old Bedford with a huge hunk of concrete on the trailer. Most of the instruction was around the Hucknall, Watnal areas, (the Watnal brickworks photo in another thread brought back memories, as that's where the manoeuvring and reversing was done. Took my test on the Friday Morning and passed first time. The instructor was very professional but very abrupt and to the point. All paid for by my work. Very rarely used my HGV licence over the years, but was good to have just in case.
