  1. That's not a nest, it's an eyrie Great photo though. I love watching birds of prey.
  2. Only ever watched the original Star Treks with Spock and Kirk. They were the best. I always find the follow ons with new characters tend to lose some of the essence of the original as they try to bring the storyline up to date. RIP Leonard Nimoy/Spock......one of my favourite characters of the 70's.
  3. After reading this thread I had a look on Amazon and found a great little book called "The Flavours of Nottinghamshire" at £1.34 for new I sent off for a copy. It has some old and some new recipes related to Nottinghamshire, and also some old photos and historical facts of the areas the recipes have come from. An excellent read. Here's a link to the book if you are interested. http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=the+flavours+of+nottinghamshire
  4. When I saw the falcons today one of them appeared to be eating something, so it could well be the remains of a kill.
  5. I wonder if there might be eggs there soon, going by her behaviour at the moment on the nest.
  6. Perhaps organise a progressive meal, where generally you eat each course in a different venue....(usually friends going round each others houses) Number of courses depending on how many are involved. Only do it as regional foods Or a meet up where everyone brings a course along. It would have to be somewhere you could do this. How about the arboretum picnic?
  7. Rennet is an enzyme which is added to milk to help curdle it during cheese making. A simpler method is to add lemon juice, it has the same effect.
  8. #5 Pigs fry are the lights, or cheaper cuts mainly offal, heart kidneys liver and sweetbreads Caul Fat is the membrane that surrounds the stomach. It is usually used to wrap faggots etc in to help keep the shape when cooking.
  9. Most things make us laugh nowadays. We have degenerated to playground humour, even sniggering if one of us says "bottom". Our goal is to get through the day trying not to use a word which could have "double entendre". We will pick each other up on words designated as "rude" but for instance if one was to say "bottom of the stairs" the other will reply "Did you say stairs?"
  10. Well time is racing by and has caught me unawares as last week the Celtic Month of The Ash (Nion or Nuin) began on the 17th! The Ash is steeped in mythology and is strongly associated with Odin, known as the Spear Brandisher among many of his other names, whose great spear Gungnir was made of ash. Because of the reverence given to the ash by the Teutons, after the Germanic tribes entered Britain the birch was replaced by the ash for what would become known as the Maypole. Here it represents the phallic, solar centre of the celebrations of life around which the gaily coloured ribbons of the w
  11. Both on the ledge at the moment. One just flew in as I logged on to the page.
  12. For all you plane spotters out there, it seems Newark air Museum is getting a facelift. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-31575717
  13. I used to love Tobys. My first dinner set (wedding present) came from there. John used to work there on Saturdays, as a yoof, and remembers the china rattling as he walked through to his department!
  14. Debenhams is in the old Griffin and Spalding building on the corner of Market Street and House of Fraser is upstairs in Victoria Centre...or that's where they were last time I was in Nottingham (which is probably over a year ago now!!!!)

  18. No pancakes for us this year, Still no computer at work and it has been such a difficult day, with "if it can happen, it did" that I completely forgot about pancakes. Big fat FAIL as a wife for me.

  21. So how has this Friday 13th been for the nottstalgians? Not too bad for us but some of the Club Members have had their share of trials and tribulations today. Two families arrived thinking they had booked but had booked the wrong dates, not too disastrous for the first as we got them on, but the later arrivals found they could only have a pitch for tonight as we are chocca tomorrow.....it being half term and Valentines day.....so they will be hoping there is a cancellation tomorrow. The really annoying thing for them was they had misbooked by one day, we were expecting them last night and the
  22. My ex was cremated a few weeks ago, our daughters collected his ashes last weekend and put some with his favourite uncle, some with his mum and dad, all of whom are buried at Wilford Hill and the rest of him went down the Trent from Wilford where he used to play as a child with his sister. (His wish was to return to the sea that he loved). I don't think they paid anyone for this they just did it themselves. Appropriately as he floated off on his voyage a brandy bottle came down the Trent after him....he was noted for his liking of brandy. His way of saying goodbye to the girls perhaps and le
  23. Is there something they're not telling us about the Eurozone??? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-31380742
