Dem gas meters are what's known as sub meters, biggest landlords fiddle ever. He pays the quarterly bill via the primary meter and those are installed in bedsits and the like. The fiddle comes from the fact that when unlocked the landlord can set the amount of gas you get for your £1 or 50p just by rotating the dial where the coin slot is. So if the landlord is paying a £1 for 50 cubic foot then the tenants pay a £1 for 30 cubic foot nice little earner. Whilst on about gas meters does anyone remember metropolitan meters just off Hyson Green? they made them by the hundred in the 60s. Colin

Beefy your report is dated 20/05, yesterday the emergency services declared that it was not a natural gas explosion. There was no escape either internally or on the service pipework. The report was on BBC midlands. Funnily enough I had the same conversation with the wife when we both heard the report. I personally can't think of anything that could cause that amount of damage that would be legally in a domestic property. Unless someone had a gas welding kit in there. Colin

East Midlands Gas Board junction of Woodborough Road and Huntingdon Street, started my apprenticeship there Jan 1962. Basford gas works learnt to shoot there in an underground range. So many places long gone. Colin

During the 1980's I worked for Central as a freelance armourer and worked on several episodes of Boon unfortunately not that one. But if memory serves some of the location shots were done at the Langley Hall Hotel and there are several ponds in that area. Colin
