Spot on Ian as always. How am I keeping? Well I am still alive, much to the disappointment of some. 67 now Ian and getting a bit creaky, still working with my son but more of a part time advisor now. He runs the show I just take a cut of the profits. Still with Chris but she is now retired Can't believe we clicked on your first post, that's some coincidence. And how are you keeping yourself, still in touch with any of the old crowd? Colin -

Hunting for coins for gas/electric/TV meters.
NewBasfordlad replied to colly0410's topic in Owt' Abaaht Nowt !
Dem gas meters are what's known as sub meters, biggest landlords fiddle ever. He pays the quarterly bill via the primary meter and those are installed in bedsits and the like. The fiddle comes from the fact that when unlocked the landlord can set the amount of gas you get for your £1 or 50p just by rotating the dial where the coin slot is. So if the landlord is paying a £1 for 50 cubic foot then the tenants pay a £1 for 30 cubic foot nice little earner. Whilst on about gas meters does anyone remember metropolitan meters just off Hyson Green? they made them by the hundred in the 60s. Colin -
Another update authorities now say it could have been an escape on the internal gas carcass, wish they would make their mind up. And now another one in Tinsley Yorkshire. Colin

My favourite part of the country the High Peak. Lived in Buxton in my early 20s, caving, climbing and boozing. Married a Buxton girl some 42 years ago in June. What a shindig that was. Colin

Beefy your report is dated 20/05, yesterday the emergency services declared that it was not a natural gas explosion. There was no escape either internally or on the service pipework. The report was on BBC midlands. Funnily enough I had the same conversation with the wife when we both heard the report. I personally can't think of anything that could cause that amount of damage that would be legally in a domestic property. Unless someone had a gas welding kit in there. Colin

East Midlands Gas Board junction of Woodborough Road and Huntingdon Street, started my apprenticeship there Jan 1962. Basford gas works learnt to shoot there in an underground range. So many places long gone. Colin

During the 1980's I worked for Central as a freelance armourer and worked on several episodes of Boon unfortunately not that one. But if memory serves some of the location shots were done at the Langley Hall Hotel and there are several ponds in that area. Colin

Ayupmeducks, I am afraid there is no such thing as smokeless gunpowder, its a name given to modern powders but in reality it does not exist. The change started in the late 19th century and was complete before the start of World War 1. The only think that gunpowder properly known as blackpowder is now used for is the shooting of old front stuffers and replica's. The modern propellents are so much more accurate. When loading the powder and bullet weights are given in grains, to give you an idea there are 7000 grains to the pound and for my .38spl target load I used to use 2.8 grains of Bullse

Mick that makes me chuckle, oh for some of that kind of justice on this side of the pond.
