  1. In 1978 i worked for MMD and Fonacar taxis. We used to take home a lot of staff from the pubs and clubs, Heart of the Midlands, Shades, Society club and the Flying horse are some of the regular ones i can remember. I don't remember any names though, even the faces are a blur, must be my age. Theatre Royal was also a regular, Tommy Cooper, The Nolan Sisters, Arthur Askey and Danny la rue are some of the people i drove.

  3. Next time they hold your banknotes up in the air, do the same with the goods you have just purchased and see how they like it. !laughing!
  4. When i sold it on to another mate it went for a fiver.
  5. That's right, the LD had two separate seats the front one with a big handle for the pillion to hold on to. The light was fixed to the body. I cant remember the spare wheel though, maybe mine was missing. It only had three gears and i paid five quid for it off a mate.

  7. Nowt wrong wi Lambrettas. I had a LD 125, LI 125 and an LI 150. Better looking than a Vespa but only did about 45 mph.

  10. I saw Roy Wood at East Midlands Airport, he must be 5 foot nothing. He looks quite tall on TV.
  11. Mmmm, was it called Mario's. Not the same sort of club though. For anyone too young to remember, the men outnumbered the women by quite a few.
  12. If you get unwanted calls, Double glazing sales etc, use the telephone preference service (TPS) you can do it on line.
  13. Automated phones, especially British Gas. You have to dial an 0845 number and then enter 2 different numbers, your account number, inside leg measurement and post code before you can even talk to a human being.
  14. The indoor rifle range was just below Cardale road and was known as Anzac tunnel.

  16. Kirkland Laing, excellent boxer who once beat Roberto Duran. He was in the news last year for dropping orange peel in the street and got fined about 300 quid. I think he lives St Annes Carlton Rd area.
  17. There is a Gill Street just off Mansfield Road near the city. Close by used to be Peel Street hospital which was a large maternity Hospital. Could this be the one? The houses have been demolished on there now but i seem to remember them being large semi detached.

  19. Hi Russ. NCT bought out South Notts. Bartons had finance problems and joined forces with Trent to make Trent Barton. Bellamys are a local coach company and have just started running 2 old Routemasters on the Arnold Route. I worked for NCT from 1979 until 1995. Whats the anagram of Shipstones?
  20. When it was in the news the T.V station showed shots of a house on Longmead Drive off Edwards lane where he apparently used to live.
  21. The field is at the junction of Valley road/ Hucknall road. A mate of mine used to have a minature steam train on there. they used to rent the land from the Council but were never allowed to charge for rides. It must be about 15 years since they had trains on there. I take my dog on there now, If you drive past and see a bloke with a white German Shephard dog on that field it could be me.
  22. I think a lot of her work was cartoons or characters, snow white etc. She would also come round to your house and draw you a "murial" (Hilda Ogden) on your wall.
