  1. Brew, thank you will follow your advice, my house was built in the 1860s so will not appeal to everyone. Your offer of help is appreciated and i will contact you if i think i am getting out of my depth. Gem
  2. Bit off topic but still about houses, my kids have suggested that i think about renting out the family home. Anyone who has done this any special things i should look out for, do i do it myself or use agency being the two that come to mind. I always value your input and advice. Gem.
  3. After the dreadful weather i have lately i would like to share this spectacular sunset taken today, my idea was to show the skyline but sort of missed the houses.
  4. Stavertongirl, i am in complete agreement having a pet to care for when losing a loved one gives a reason to get up and face the day. When my husband passed i was the owner of a very lazy english bulldog so i decided to get him a friend who i hoped would encourage him to get out more. I adopted a retired greyhound who is even lazier than he is, but the love and companionship they give me i forgive them.
  5. Thank you Loppy, my neighbour has collected his roof and also made a temporary repair to my gate i think the toilet is beyond repair. I think our problem is that we face a large park so there is no cover from the wind, although this is the first time we have suffered structural damage, Mum is happily tucked away on the yorkshire coast with no wind problems. Thankfully the wind has dropped what will be next SNOW........
  6. I live in a victorian terrace house, you yourself also live in an old property you will know the odd noises they can make. My neighbours garage roof is in my yard, mine is still in place !!!!!! the roof is off the outside toilet (just as well not in use) and my flower displays are gone probably out of my demolished back door and in the lane. Have heard nothing from Mum so things for her must be ok.
  7. I am at home in Gateshead and the wind is frightening so bad that i am unable to sleep, by the noise i am sure that i no longer have a back gate and the numerous plants that were in tubs are now non existant. It is a long time since the wind has frightened me but with a lot of furniture being removed it seems to be in every nook and cranny and whistling like a demented drunk on a mouth organ. The dogs are both fast asleep so i will make myself a coffee and maybe join them.
  8. I always seem to burn inside of wrists when removing dishes from oven, can't be an age thing for me been doing it for years.
  9. In a moment of madness i bought these items the single machine i already have the others are on the way, now the question is what the heck do i do with them. Anyone remember these at home.

    Alfreton Road

My thanks to you both but it was definitely Players as my flatmate worked there, also the smell was like no other. We were literally over the road I had thought it was at the bottom of Alfreton Road, but could well be wrong on that, we were in a terraced flat. I wish we could remember more but the factory just seemed to go on forever, my friend continued to work there after we moved but left she thinks early 1972. I remember turning right when leaving our flat to go to the main road to catch my bus not much help I know.

    Alfreton Road

Jill, i had mentioned it before never followed it up, all i can remember is looking out and all i could see was the factory it seemed to fill the full length of the road. Looking at Troggs photo meant nothing but its been a long long time, trouble with looking back is memories can get mixed up. We did try looking on google search with what little knowledge we had and it seems to be an industrial estate. Will try looking at old photos of Radford Boulevard, so thank you for the pointer.

    Alfreton Road

Thanks Trogg, the reason I was asking when I first came to Nottingham the university found us a flat opposite the Players factory, my friend and I are reminiscing but can't find the street anywhere. Our memory just not helping. Gem

    Alfreton Road

Trogg, near the bottom of Alfreton Road was there a Players factory left hand side.
  14. When i am working i usually pull my hair into a bun then put the pen/pencil into said bun so i don't lose it. You can probably guess where this is going, i am looking everywhere for my pen and never find it till it falls on the floor. At the moment i am looking for a pair of scissors that have been missing for 4 days i know that when i buy a new pair tommorow they will turn up.
  15. Have changed back thanks CT, the glare from the white screen was a step to far for the old eyes even with the tinted lens.
  16. I have got a blue banner and rest is so white it hurts you'r eyes, is this a permanent thing.
  17. Margie you and i seem to have had the same childish hobbies, did you also fold paper into squares cut shapes and make your own dollies.

    Dilemma

I also think that you should complain Carni, when doing so make the point (as plantfit has said) that some people are allergic to laytex.
  19. NBL is a man with a lot of information on a lot of subjects who does not mind sharing. I would like to see him back .....without his advice there would have been one little guide dog puppy who may not have made the grade.
  20. When I lived in Gateshead the Metro Centre was 10mins away and Newcastle 5mins, so I used to like to walk around and see and feel the items I wanted to buy. Now that I live in a small village with Whitby as my nearest town and I have taken to on-line shopping, I go to Guisborough every two weeks for my food shop, there is a co-op in the village but it is expensive and not a lot of choice. I love where I live but it does have its drawbacks. I have said before Mum loves online shopping, both of them are Christmas shopping before all the bargains have gone ..........
  21. Nonna having read your post it does make me wonder if there is more "out there" then a sceptic like myself will acknowledge. All of those things that happened to you can not be put down to coincidence.
  22. Jill i am not a believer in the afterlife and have never felt anyone around me, it must be a lovely feeling to have. My son says he has felt his dad near and it gives him comfort, so maybe my daughter in law has a point.
  23. Its an odd thing nonna i have had it in my sitting room since May and noticed nothing, wonder how many others are the same.
  24. Its the latest airwick diffuser, its not a light that shines the top of the diffuser lights up when it sprays.
