  2. Born City Hospital. Lived on Woodborough Road and then Ford Street St. Mary's. My parents did the best thing they ever did and emigrated to Eastwood in 1959 just before my 3rd birthday. been here ever since and it suits me fine.
  3. A mate of mine has his address as Bassingfield. He lives on the A52 pretty well opposite the old garage.
  4. Thanks. I was wondering what date the census might have taken place. I guess I might find John W. Cooper shacked up at the Horton's
  5. That's exactly the way it seems to me. I found many spelling mistakes. Basford becomes Barford and Newark become Newash. John William was an electric crave driver
  6. Just wondering what reasons there can be for someone not being found on a census. In this case the 1901 census. The people I am looking for are: John William Cooper, born Burton Joyce 1878, and Annie Elizabeth Cooper nee Horton born Newark 1875. Also on that census would be Florence Rose (My Grandmother). She had her mothers maiden name of Horton when born (1896/7) but acquired Cooper at some stage. John and Annie were married in Nottingham in June 1901. I can find them on Derwent Street, Medders on 1911 census, but they are invisible nationwide on the 1901 census. Were censuses held in Oct
  7. That's OK thanks. Its just the word association notifications that I don't want.
  8. If I click to unfollow(?) a topic and stop receiving notifications, can I still contribute to that topic? I don't mind word association at all but my inbox is persistently full of email notifications that I really don't need
  9. Thackery's Lane must have been named after somebody?
  10. You can select who is allowed to view your videos on YouTube too if you don't want all the world to see them. From memory I think you can select just to let people who have the link to it view it. Like the link you will put to it for this forum to see it. Videos from a Sony camcorder need to be re-coded before uploading to YouTube. I use Nero.
  11. It was CH Truman before they became Truman-Mitchell and moved to Trumph Corner. My 1961 Rover 100 was supplied new by them but when they were in there earlier still place on Mansfield Road. They were agents for predominantly Rover but also other exotica Rolls Royce, Bentley, Alvis, Aston Martin, Lagonda etc
  12. Thanks Affer, they are of interest. Wouldn't have thought Robin Hood Chase was still there - must go and have a look sometime. (Must lock the van up well when I go). As for you saying wi cudda moved wi a barrer - well we probably did! - towed behind the 1939 Austin 8 me dad 'ad at the time. My father rented a lock up garage when we lived on Woodborough Road but can't remember whether that was on Plowright Street or Dame Agnes Street. Parents pronunciation always sounded like Day Magnus Street, and always thought that that was what it was until I was, until I suppose I was in my late teens. T
  13. Thanks. I shall have a go sometime soon. I usually make an excellent job of something new the first time I try - second time a total **** up !
  14. Would this still work if I just bought sausage meat rather sausages?
  15. Thanks Affer. Well I would certainly like to see the rest of them. I'm sure most of us here would too I shall have to take a drive up St Anns Well Road soon and have a look where the Cavendish is. I have never noticed it before.
  16. Not what my parents used to say, but my grandmother - if an item of clothing was worn out with holes in it was 'more holy than righteous'.
  17. I never tell lies. Ooops! That was one.
  18. Eyep Affer Yes please I would like to see them and thanks for taking them. Got to agree with Mick tho' if you can put them on photobucket or something we can all see em and it might spark some other contributions. I do get back fairly frequently, I have a good few customers up Mapperley, so if i want to go into town when I have been to one of them I just drive straight down Woodbro' Road. I have got an occasional customer on Plantagenet Street and I was on Robin Hood Street last week. Until I looked at Ayupmeducks map I would have thought that Robin Hood Street was Sneinton! I see from Ayupm
  19. Congratulations Bubblewrap. Just as a matter of interest if you do 1000 posts do you get a half crown?
  20. Thanks folks. That is at least a start. That section is now demolished, I assume in the early 70's along with the rest of St Anns
  21. Just had a look on Find My Past and there is only one Bryan Moss died in Nottingham in 1937. I don't have any credits or subscription at the mo' so can't look further.
  22. Long shot here but I am trying to find a photo of my place of birth, or should I say the address on my birth certificate. It was 264 Woodborough Road although I think that should read 264a. It was at the back of a shop. I have no idea who the shop belonged to or what the shop sold. I believe it was on the right hand side of Woodborough Road with Mansfield Road behind you and was on the steep part of the hill somewhere between the Dame Aggie Mellors boozer (now gone) and St. Augustines Church but I am not certain at all. Photo would be nice but any other info would be appreciated. While we are
