I Like Retford too..used to have relatives there....also did a few stints at the Coop.....got a good friend who used to be Warder at nearby Ranby Prison.......oh yes also used to deal with a Butcher there named 'Bacon'.....Rog is the Cannon still there? Do they still have a football team ? played on their old ground a couple of times.........also played Cricket on a nice ground just before you enter Retford...... So you could say i knew Retford pretty well....... Also Rog love the 4 cylinder engine.......

  4. thanks Margie........sorry didnt mean to put photo on again.....i am more than happy about it................because we never had a photo of his days in the home guard...........when i was little i used to ask him about his time in it ........and all he ever did was tell me funny stories about it........my Dad a lovely Gentleman...
  5. Bulwell home guard WW2 years... Just found this on Turtons Bulwell photo's....And i am certain thats my Dad far right second from bottom with the Moustache ..........I'M so happy at finding it..i could cry.........

Really enjoyed getting out this morning..(1st time in two weeks)...heard this on smooth radio nice to drive along to........obviously went into Bulwell....lots of ''WHERE YO BINS DUCK?''.....also saw 3 chaps and one lady i was at school with..all those years ago...nice to know they were still about...all had kept their Bestwood sense of humour....'''are you playing saturday?'' Fancy Palais tonight?.''..ya goo down last night?''. and more lol.........all finished off with a lovely ''Eggs Benedict'' in Jerome's'''

  16. Came across this on CD today......i had forgot about 'Curtis'.......we went to see him at the Embassy in Skeggy some years ago......Donna bought the CD and he signed it.......also asked her if she wanted him to Text her when he got back to Hollywood........She went all 'Gooey'.......lol
  17. Enjoyed ''Herb'' since the 60s....makes a great sound...Pushing 90 now and i believe still performs........ It was him that made me buy a 'Trumpet' many years ago...never really mastered anything with it......but managed a few bits............ Eventually gave it my Daughter who managed a couple of years playing it in the Bestwood ''Black Diamonds band'' which she really enjoyed....

  19. Always enjoyed the late Anthony Newley......from about 1960 when he played Gurney Slade and about the same year sang this song........ I Had an Uncle named 'Dick' Who looked and sang rather like him...he was a Miner at Calverton and often sang at the Miners Welfare there......another Uncle also down the Pit at Calverton also sang songs there..especially remember him singing Bernard Breslaw's hit song ''Charlie Brown'' that was my Uncle Harold.....lovely funny man.....

The best old buildings in Nottingham up the ''Lace Market'' they create a great 'Atmosphere''.........In 1960 i was a 15 year old Van Lad for British rail and did delivery's..to most of the working places.....mainly lots of women sat sowing and Machining....with the Music of the day blasting out...also recall the ladies singing along to it and always seemed happy......but most of all loved being 'Harassed'' by them...
